Chlamydia

    Hi everyone,
I'm hoping someone can anser my question. I recently had a smear and asked the doc to just check for infections you know when she was 'down there' and all that.
She said it would take 2 weeks for the infection results to come back, possibly 4 weeks for smear results.
So the other day it was 2 weeks and i rang and got speaking to the nurse and she said everything came back normal but she said the test for chlamydia hadn't come back yet. I find this strange. How could it take that long? Does anyone know how long it normally takes to come back? Am a bit worried :(

prob down to the lab; lots of people taking holidays around now so things may be backed up a bit!!

I wouldn't worry about it, there could be any number of reasons (back log of tests to do) why it'd take that long and I'd doubt any of them would mean you have chlamydia.

Taking a swab for Chlamydia is standard now with all smear tests and yes the lab that processes them gets backed up and you will have to wait. 4 weeks for smear results is really good last I heard there was a wait of 3 months.

Perhaps the different tests take different lengths of time for a satisfactory reading? It might be that results were sent back, as they became available- someone being hyper efficient.....?

Smear results usually take forever so I'm surprised you got it back so fast - mine took over two months! Never realised that they test automatically for chlamydia too though - how do you know this????

I'm unsure why you feel the need to ask this question here...

You were told before hand it would take up to 4 weeks for the test to come back, it's only been 2 weeks.

Do you think they're hiding the test results from you or something?

    QFT.
    There is no issue OP.
    Laboratory delays are prevalent unfortunately.
Do you think they're hiding the test results from you or something?

More an issue for the conspiracy theories forum

I dont think its an automatic thing, they test what you pay them to test.

It came in recently that when you have a smear you will be offered a chlamydia test as well and just have to sign the forum for it as it is a simple procedure to take a swab when the dr is already down there.

Are you sure? Anytime Ive been for a smear, hospital or other-wise, I have never been offered. Are the required to do this now?

    guest2008,

First things first, stop worrying :) I know easier said than done. I'm afraid you've gotta play the waiting game.

If you do have chlamydia it's treatable and with drugs it will clear up and leave your system for good.

just to clarify, leaving the system for good doesn't meant immune it it in future. Unless someone wants to correct me on that.
