I think that its time the Irish rugby start to play under the tri colour and Amhrán na bhFiann, and not that crap Ireland's call and the IRFU flag. It might even bring some passion back to the jersey. What do others think

I think I've just made it in before the lock.

Hard to see the Bests and Trimble and these guys inspired by our Soldiers song.
Anyway the team seem more united and emotional during Ireland's call.

I reckon we should adopt God Save the Queen, after all England have gotten to two World Cup finals on the back of the passion it gives them, it could work for us.

Sounds good to me, we should probably have a new crest that incoperates the union jack as well to represent the North.

    +1

Motion carried. GSTQ is Ireland's new anthem.

Well done, topcelt, for helping to clear that up.

Actually, considering the Union Jack contains the cross of Saint Patrick, it's clear it already represents Ireland, so to save on design costs, I reckon we should just adopt the Union Jack altogether.

It's good to see consensus forming on this.

I'm all for gstq, but failing that I think we should think outside the box...the theme tune from the Muppet show would be both a real crowd pleaser and very, very apt....

Oh and OP, you really should include a 'neither of the above' option as both the songs in your post are superb examples of appallingly nonsensical 'anthem ****'...reckon we should adopt the Marseillaise on grounds of musical taste..best anthem in the world and the sentiment transferable to any republic....plus it might confuse the French so much we might actually stand a chance of beating them...

Flower of Scotland easily destroys le Marseillaise. I reckon Flower of Scotland should be our fall back anthem in case we aren't allowed sing God save the Queen (though why anyone would stop us praising that dear lady is a mystery to me).

Dhera come on Amazo, a Scots dirge about the one of the few times they actually managed to beat the English..and how they'll probably (all too prophetically) never manage it again!!.give me a mull of kintyre any day or maybe the real unofficial scottish anthem The superbly awful "500 miles" by the proclaimers;)

To make things even easier, the we should revert to colonial rule, then the likes of BOD and O'Connell can play for Johnson's team, giving us a chance of actually winning something at international level.

    Ireland's call
Why not a combination of all the above 'God Save the Flower of Marseilles'.
I actually think Ireland's Call should be scrapped because it's crap rather that any political reference.

I think the macarena would get the lads energised before the game. The crowd could also do the dance to get the atmosphere going

I say we stop playing rugby all together at international level to avoid problems of this nature in the future .

P.S weres the atari jaguar option ?

How about we drop anthems altogether and every single team just does a haka.

    Ireland's call
I voted for the national anthem, but it will not and cannot be the national anthem. Our national anthem is a hymn to killing British people. We have a United Ireland when it comes to rugby, and that means there are two communities involved. We should respect both of them. Yes that means we've a **** song, but that's not our fault.

Still, the actual Irish flag itself is actually a perfect flag for a United Ireland, shame about the connotations. Though the same could be said of the Union Jack in terms of the UK, which is a decent stab at recognising all elements of the UK.

I realise the OP is relatively new, but the anthem issues has been done to death here and will never be resolved by us.

I'm locking this thread before it gets too messy.

We've asked before that you try and contain yourselves when it comes to this as every year there are a multitude of threads which centre around "the Anthem issue".

    Regards

    Amz
