18 month contract x 45 euro (lowest tariff) + cost of cheapest iphone (8gb, around 150 euro) = around a grand........if they let you do it.

    still worth it....?

Paying over a grand for a phone is not worth it, no matter what the phone...
Besides i dont see whats the big deal, i am nearly sure within 1 month, hundreds of sim free iphone 3gs will be out on ebay at 300-400ish euro.

Just wait the month, o2 can go f*ck themselves with their 1 grand phone :p

Cool. So when you get your sim free iphone for 400 quid what then? Do they make calls for free? Is data free as well? Making a conservative guess that you will spend 30 quid a month on credit/bill. Over 18 months that amounts to €540. Add that to the price of the phone and you get €940. Wow - that's how much the phone and contract is gonna cost me over 18 months as well!! But yet I'm getting my phone today from o2 and I don't have to worry that when I open the box it will be full of sand which is exactly what you'll have to do when you buy it from some chancer on eBay. :-) Look, from my point of view I'm getting seriously cool phone, an iTouch and a GPS naviagtion system and 18 months worth of calls for €980 euro. I'm already with o2 and I'd spend that much anyways on calls on my current poxy nokia phone. So for the likes of me (and lots of people like me) it's a no brainer...

whats the avalaibilty\wait time for an iphone from O2? Is it quicker to get it off the Web store if a physical store?

There's plenty of unlocked iPhones around the place that don't cost 1,000 eur. so getting it that way would be just about the worst. do o2 unlock it for you if you buy out the contract?

No we don't. You sign a contract and you are obliged to fufill it. Your iphone price is based on you signing up to a paritcular tariff and agreeing to pay a certain amount per month.
