    Looking for some advice.
I have circa 50k to invest for a few years and was wondering what are the best options in the current climate.

permanent tsb have a cracking savings rate of 10.5% right now for sums over 10 k with no upper limit

No 'investment' advice needed....with markets very volatile I would be reluctant to go anywhere near stocks for the next 12 months. A nice term deposit account to shelter from the sharks at the moment....see how things go over the next while

Unless you fancy oil stocks (Tullow) then stay clear of the ISEQ/FTSE etc.

10% over 20 months. 5.89% annual rate. Still good though if you're confident PTSB can last 20 months ;)

Listen, just cos you quoted Permanent TSB as having a 10.5% savings rate when in fact it works out as being 5.89% before D.I.R.T. above

. . . don't take it out on me when I tell the original poster that in fact it is not that good and barely beats inflation. :(

I think the general point being made was that these deposit rates are very attractive at present. I would argue that such rates are good in the present climate, and with the equity markets so volatile, anything that is guaranteed to beat inflation would be ideal. What other investments can keep the real value of money, without taking a greater element of risk?

I wasn't advocating it either way. My point was that Irish Bob quoted it as being " a cracking savings rate of 10.5 % " which just isn't true.

It's important to post accurate info. in a forum like this.

your right mate , i was wrong on that one
you see my mom who wants to invest some money rang permanent tsb and was told that this was the savings rate available
i was sceptical and rang up myself on her behalf , lady on the other end told me the rate was 10.5%
wasnt untill i heard the add for this offer on the radio the next day that the actual rate per anum was spelled out for me

hey just remember....when people are telling you about "cracking" savings etc, they might actually have vested interests and want you to invest in x,y and z. just be wary that's all
