its all rainy in Rotterdam so no play yet today -
Botha scored 103 n.o. so far as we got to 226/4 yesterday
If there is play today we're gonna have to give it a bit of crash, bang, wallop in order to set a decent first innings total and try to bowl the dutch out twice in the 2 remaining days....
we could do with winning this one if we want to retain this trophy and stay ahead of the likes of Kenya and Namibia as the top developing nation..
it's going to be tough if the weather over there doesn't pick up though..

    Progress on this one...

Ireland declared on 400/6, with Andre making 172 and Andy Poynter an excellent 76.

Currently, we have the Dutch at 13/3, with batsmen 1 2 and 3 back in the dressing-room.

yeah we're going to have to bowl them out twice if we want to win, given the rain delays and all that.. those 3 early wickets should help a lot..
the sooner the better we skittle a couple more of them really... in this contest you get six points for a first innings lead, so even if the game were to be tied, those six points could come in handy in the overall shakedown..
really good stuff from Botha and Poynter yesterday, especially with all the delays.. and brave captaincy from McCallan to declare and try to get into the Dutch.. Here's hoping it pays off..
pity there's no tv coverage of it really.. or even radio.. i'm following it here: http://www.cricketeurope4.net/LIVE/1/commentary.shtml

Ireland doing nicely, with the Dutch struggling on 71/6, and 7 & 8 at the wicket. Bowlers & fielders combining well. Onwards!

127 all out - nice one............and one more time for the road :D

    indeed..
Ireland skittled them in the 2nd innings for 206, Connell got a hat-trick with the last 3 balls of the game to give him figures of 18-10-28-6, quality stuff...
Maximum points and that takes us into 2nd place in the table with games against Canada at home and then Namibia (currently 1st but with a game more played than IRL) and Kenya away..
Top 2 qualify for the final afaik..

If we can put this league to bed again this year and convince the ecb to release all the Irish players next summer, it would make sense for ireland to take sri lankas place in the two test series next year. There was light talk of this from Botham and Hussein on sky.

Sri Lanka will be without 19 IPL contracted players so it will be farsical. A full Irish team would be far more competative with the likes of porterfield, morgan, obrien and rankin back.

We could certainly take on the Sri Lanka 2nds

I'm only getting into Cricket, so hope you dont mind if i ask this,

but how come the ECB have such a hold on our top players?, cant thet not play both Club and Country?,

    thanks...

basically because the counties they are signed to (for example, Eoin Morgan to Middlesex) pay their wages. They are professional cricket players. The Irish cricket team are not a professional team so dont pay their players apart from expenses.

So if I was a cricket executive for middlesex, why would i release Eoin to play for Ireland against Holland when he is a mainstay in the team.

That's the case for Intercontinental Cup matches and other games, but it's a bit more complex for One-Day Internationals. The ICC says there is a mandatory release i.e. Middlesex have to release him to play. However, they don't have to guarantee he'll get his place back in the side when he returns. Competition for places is so intense in the county sides that players cannot afford to take that chance.

It's a horrendous dilemma for players to be in, and I don't envy them for it. I'm not sure what the answer is, though.

    Alex Cusack (Clontarf)
    Phil Eaglestone (Strabane)
    Thinus Fourie (Railway Union)
    Gary Kidd (Waringstown)
    Kyle McCallan (Waringstown)
    Eoin Morgan (Middlesex)
    Kevin O’Brien (Railway Union)
    Niall O’Brien (Northamptonshire)
    Paul Stirling (Cliftonville)
    Reinhardt Strydom (North County)
    Andrew White (Instonians

Squad for Ireland vs Scotland and the Dutch - Full ODI status awarded to these games. The big guns are back so we really should be looking to win this match.

Rankin: definitely not, he's not fit yet, and will have to play for his county first to prove his fitness

Johnston: has stepped back from the ODI scene, so I wouldn't expect to see him.

I believe that TJ may be back for the T20 competition, don't know about Boyd but as was said before, he will need to get fit for county first!:)
