    Hi,
Im going on holidays to barcelona for a few weeks and was planning a nice weekend in a quiet costal town between barcelona and girona. Has anyone any recomendations of towns or hotels in that region?

    Cheers

Girona itself is nice, there's a large pedestrianised area in the centre, Ramblas and Jewish Quarter, and the Catedral is supposed one of the largest by volume in the world. there's walls around the old city too.

I think most places on the coast would be busy touristy places, only place I can think of that would be quieter is Cadaques, where Salvador Dali lived, but it's a bit north of Girona, nearer the border. the road there is an eeltrack, maybe you could hit 60kmh top speed and average about half that from Rosas.

A colleague in work spent a weekend in Tarragona, which isn't a small town but he highly recommended it.

this might be a little too far/not what you wanted, but Collioure in France should be reachable by train from Barcelona or Girona, it's very pretty and quaint, by the sea, most of the town is closed to nonresidential traffic. busy touristy but in a French way so no great nightlife/quiet at night kinda thing.

There is also some old roman ruins in a town near Rosas, whose name escapes me.

this is probably not what you wanted though, sorry,

I flew into Girona 2 years ago and got a bus about 20mins north to Lloret De Mar. Its beautiful! They all speak English but we didnt meet any native English speakers which was lovely for a change. I'd go back to it in a heartbeat. The beach there is pebble and thats the only thing i could say was a downpoint. Our hotel cost about 60 euro per night (in total) for a 3 star. Lots of nice quirkey shops and the food was pretty good. We were there for 3nights in September and it was about 26C everyday.

My OH and I flew into Barcelona last year and spent a week in the seaside resort of Sitges. Sitges is a lovely and the beaches are very nice but I would ware you that it is the gay capital of Spain.

We stayed in Girona for 1 night and would go back there in a heartbeat, the city is very nice with a beautiful cathedral.
