hi, i was just looking to buy my b/f a present of a speedometer since hes really into his running, and doing the marathon this year. and i was just wondering does anyone know where i can get a good one, that measures speed, distance etc...????

i have heard of the Fitsense FS-1 Speedometer which i think looks quite good, does anybody know if this model is available in ireland or if there is something similar out there??

i know there is a nike one that u can hook up to your ipod or something but he doesnt have an ipod so thats kind of out.

if anyone could help i would really appreciate it, running out of time to find him a good present!!

I would suggest a garmin 405. I'm currently using the older version (305) and find it very good. 405 is about €260 and 305 about €190. Garmin make GPS systems. The other quality brand to look at is polar. These are not GPS but use a foot pod to measure distance (e.g. rs200) I've had problems with the accuracy of their distance measurement (but you can always use mapmyrun to check) but they are a lot better looking than the garmins to wear everyday.

I've a Polar (725x) and find it great - you'll need a foot pod with it though so not sure if that'll take it outside your budget...

Polar have released a G1 GPS add on for 625x and 725x, actually for anything Polar that had the old foot pods.

Looks like the Polar GPS alternatives to the footpod will only record the speed and distance, you don't get the additional mapping ability with it. Bit of a shame, but I guess the speed/ distance will be a touch more accurate though.
