Problem with Creative Zen Vision:M

My Creative ZV:M (30GB) died for no apparent reason on Saturday evening. The battery wasn't dead (3/4 full).

It won't turn back on, not a peep from it. No lights.
I tried charging it overnight with the AC charger but it still won't turn on. However when plugged in with the charger, the blue light flashes 5 times if I try to turn it on. It's outside warranty.

Anyone have any ideas about how I can fix it?

Had the same one for a long time now, it used to freeze untill I updated the bios from the webby.
The fix for me was to get a needle and put it into the hole at the top, it's the reset button. Then switch it back on.

That flashing light prob relates to an error number, creative have a fourm http://forums.creative.com/creativelabs/board?board.id=pmc

    Hope this helps

I tried reseting it, and also tried getting it into safe mode (reset and power on at the same time).

As for the lights, if I try power it up when not plugged in absolutely nothing happens. No blue light, no indicator on the screen.

But, if I plug it in using the mains charger and try turn it on the blue power light flashes 5 times and then nothing. No indicators on the screen in this case either.

From the looks of the Creative fourm, if it blinks when you turn it on and nothing else happens its still charging.

In your case I would say that the battery has gone faulty and needs to be replaced. That happened with a mobile phone I once had, it just wouldn't take a charge for me.

Hmm... that might be it... I don't see why it just failed all of a sudden. :(

    hi there,

i had a similar problem with the vision m and was ready to send it back for repair/replacement.
but as a last ditch effort i uploaded the firmware update from the creative site and it worked grand.
this might help you if your PC can still connect to it.

    Cheers,

If you put a needle in the hole on the side near the top then you have probably damaged your microphone. Unless you mean the hole at the bottom where you put the dock in.

I had your exact problem with 3 different Creatives. They would stop charging, they would freeze for no reason. At first resetting them would work or maybe reloading the firmware but in the end they couldn't even be recognised by the PC and just literally died.

I have an iPod now :D

The last Creative was only 6 months old and still in warranty but I just wasn't bothered anymore.
