This starts on TV tonight, might be worth a watch....
    10:15, RTE1.

    From entertainment.ie:
RTE archives plundered for yet another new series... HUZZAH! Seize the opportunity to laugh again at the jokes and stories that defined a generation with this look back at the growth and development of Irish comedy. The series starts with the inevitable looks back at classic performers of the pre-1980s, generation including Jimmy O'Dea, Maureen Potter and Hal Roach. In the late 1980s, comedy suddenly became the new rock and roll and a new generation emerged with a different idea of what was funny. Interviewees recall the phenomenon of 'Scrap Saturday' and the impact that it had. Ireland's first Perrier Award Winner, Sean Hughes, began his career in the Comedy Cellar and quickly ascended to heights unheard of for Irish comedians, getting his own show on British television and selling out stand-up gigs at home and abroad. Irish television too was beginning to take notice of the burgeoning comedy scene, and 'Nighthawks' was where many of us got our first glimpse of the stars of the future - and Kevin McAleer...

That was a pretty good show. I'm looking forward to next weeks episode. But I thought they kind of brushed over everything too quickly. I would of liked more detail about the various comedians and how they got started (I think Brendan O'Carroll was the only one to mention how he got started).

Some interesting archive footage, I wish we could have gotten to see more of it.

I only caught the second half. Anyone know if it's repeated or online?

    Cheers.

lol... Ah no, cheers. I'm just curious to see it, I don't absolutely need to!

But thanks for the offer anyway!

I wonder does this show herald the return of standup to RTE. There hasn't been any in a while... Liffey Laugh was good, but finished a year or two ago.. I don't think they're even televising the Montreal thing this year...

You would think that they would couple it with some comedy show/stand-up show they were talking about. They talked about Mr.Trellis so they could have put on a mix of Ardal, Kevin & ... the other one's comedy on after it ...

But maybe they don't own the rights to some of the stuff & don't wanna have to fork out the monies! It is RTE after all!
