N95 Classic - No Network Search Option

Right, some time ago I upgraded the firmware on my phone and I just noticed today that I don't have an option anymore to do a manual network search.

I am with 3 and was hoping to use their "3 Like Home" when I am away in Italy (was actually due to leave today but then the radar at the airport crapped out) and they advised me I will need to select the network manually.

I am wondering if I put different firmware on the phone will it restore my network search option and if so, which product code to use.

Would be very grateful if other unlocked de-branded N95 Classic owners could check if they have this facility and if so what product code they are using.

Nobody have any answers on this?

Been trying to research it myself online and the only thing I found was that t-mobile phones may not display the option to change operator except in areas where t-mobile does not own any GSM space - could that be true of 3 too and when I get to Italy the phone will prompt me to pick a network...

What I don't want to happen is that I get stuck using TIM with no data when there is an available Tre network but my phone doesn't choose it.

I put an O2 SIM in the phone last night and sure enough I had the option to change operators. Tried my 3 SIM in the unlocked O2 phone with the same result so it basically has something to do with the combination of my SIM and the N95...

3 disable this feature to minimise you roaming on vodafone when at home. Obviously people are going to prefer 5/5 bars of vodafone coverage to 1/5 bars of 3 coverage.

This costs 3 money though so they prefer to have you with their own network, with poor network coverage.

Well I figured that might be the case too but when I put the SIM card in an unlocked N73 the option is available. Also available in my old unlocked N80. Will take the N80 with me too just in case.

There is actually very little to be found online about this issue - very odd.

That is probably because it uses 3 firmware. Change the product code to a generic one and reinstall the firmware using Nokia software update (if you have vista, enable xp compatability mode to make it work)

While I think it may be related to the firmware, the current firmware on the phone is generic - not the 3 firmware - EURO 2 as far as I can remember. I don't much fancy the prospect of rebuilding my phone without knowing that it would actually help to do this. Hence my original request for the product code from others using unlocked N95's with 3 who have the manual selection option.
