I have just heard this morning that immigriant officals can refuse entry to the states for your passport name not matching plane ticket.....i.e. passport has first & second name, plane ticket only has first name....

is this true? anyone ever experience this problem before?

flying early next week so any help/comments would be appreciated

I have an idea this is correct. When you book tickets they usually ask for the full name that appears on your passport. My father once got turned away from his flight because his passport name didn't match his ticket. I would check with the airline you are flying with before you go to save any hassle. You should be able to get the correct mane transferred to replacement ticket. Good luck.

checked with airline....plane ticket was non-refundable and they refused to change name! so only option was to obtain a new passport, picking it up in the morning so hopefully panic over :)

You shouldn't be allowed fly if your passport and ticket name don't match. Usually costs 100 euro for a name change i think

I've never put my middle name on a ticket and have had no problem travelling to America, Canada, Middle East.

Ive never put my middle name either but i was stopped once going to greece for budget travel putting my name down incorrectly, it was one letter that was wrong and i had proof of the details i supplied to them (was travelling in a group and all tickets had been sent to another girl) but they still told me i either couldn't fly or had to pay a hundred euro. eventually got it sorted by ringing up their head office and going beserk

I've never used my middle name on booking tickets.

Sorry for bumping an old thread but as this one had mixed replys.

Do you think that it is safe flying to the states using the first and last name on the flight ticket only but also having a middle name on the passport?

I don't know fully but your proposal sounds suspiciously like terrorism to me:pac:

i'd normally be surprised if your middle name excluded you from a flight, Latinos regulary have 4 names on their passport, Arabs can have even more and theres bound to be problems with them booking flights online where first and second name are the only optons available on the site.

Still though things can't get any more anal than flying to the U.S. at the moment, travelers are treated like criminals to get into that place, it's gotten to the point where some are questioning the value of it as a good spot for a relaxed holiday. Especially when the stress starts before you've even traveled there.
With them being so strict I'd ring both the travel agent and the U.S. embassy just to make sure. Even if it's only for peace of mind.

Dont worry about your middle name. Has never stopped me and I travel to the US alot. Once your first and last name match and you resemble the photo you are fine.

You will be fine. The only people who care about your middle name is the parents that gave it to you, other than that it is pretty much irrelavent.

As previously said you will be fine.
I arrived back from SFO yesterday and had not problems not having my middle name on the ticket eventhough my middle name is on the passport.

Have a similar issue to the OP and am also flying with Ethiad so I thought I'd post here. Either through my own stupidity or some IT problem, my ticket to Sydney has my first and last names reversed. I called the travel agent and they said my options were to show up at the airport and explain the problem to the check in person and hope it would be ok (she did mention they could put a note on my booking explaining the problem), or cancel and rebook, but pay a fee of 300 euro for a cancellation. I'm thinking of the former as surely common sense should prevail once I show my passport and other ID, but with tighter security these days and the possibility of catching someone at the check in desk having a bad day I'm not sure. I'd be grateful for any thoughts/similar experiences.
