XP Reinstall

    Afternoon all.
I'm giving my old desktop to the inlaws, so I decided to wipe it and reinstall XP. I've 2 hdds installed, wiped XP from the first, and installed it onto the second.
Everything seems to be working grand-and-dandyo except for the Shutdown. It shuts XP down grand, but the machine keeps running until you "press the button". Is there a setting I've missed to get it to power down as well as shutting down? It worked fine on the original installation.
    Thanks guys.

    Cheers.
Don't know if it's OS related or hardware related, so I chucked it in the General section! :o

Is ACPI disabled in BIOS? If so then XP will have re-installed without it.

Go to control panel, power options and see if you have an APM tab. If so you can try enabling legacy atpm support which may fix the problem.

If that don't work ensure that you have ACPI enabled and do a repair install of XP which should allow XP to pick it up and let you shutdown properly.

The above is from memory and may not be 100% accurate, a google should sort you out though.

Will try all that when I get home, thanks.
Can't understand why it would've changed between installs?!

Anyways, will give it a go.

also check the power options in control panel.
Control panel - power options - advanced

That worked a treat lads, thanks!

Checked ACPI in the BIOS, but it was impossible to disable it. It had two options, something like AC1/XXX and AC3/XXX. So I left well enough alone with that, and went into power options. Ticked on the option in the APM tab, and it worked a treat.

Cheers for the help. Case closed!:D
