requiring shoulder reconstruction, out till late November, which puts him out of the running for Autumn tests and All Black match in Thomand.

On a brighter note for Munster, appointment of Laurie Fischer as forwards coach is a great appointment based on his previous record.

WRT Leamy, I heard a bit on it last night and it seems to be an old injury, if this is the case why did he go on the SH tour, would it not have been better for him and Munster to have had the surgery immediately after the European Cup Final and try to return early next season. With Foley's retirement and Leamy's surgery it now looks like that Munster will be down two back-row forwards.

Ireland can easily cope without him, Munster though...

Still plenty of time to sign new forwards. You need them. ;)

He's Ireland's player, not Munster's, and they chose to have him on the tour for whatever reason. Seems a bit odd, but then he probably wouldn't have made it back for the AIs either way.

Well thats the one draw back of professional rugby, all these pointless end of season internationals which may provided much needed revenues for the rugby unions but means front line players rarely get a proper off-season to recover from old/niggly injuries

Well the most likely thing is that all the medical officers (in this case Munster and Ireland) declared that he was fit and able so he went.

Im not too sure what way the system goes for sending players for surgery in Ireland is it the provinces medical staff or the IRFU im not too sure. I know in Engerland its the clubs choice as to whether a player has surgery or not.

Donnacha Ryan or Niall Ronan might get a run now. Quinlan 6, Ronan 7, Wallace 8. Pace and intelligence there. Might be good for Ireland aswell. Give Quinnie another chance in the green

For non-urgent cases (such as this), I would presume the decision on when to release the player for surgery rests mainly with the IRFU given that they are the organisation the players are contracted to.
