Aer Lingus & Ryanair Carry-on Laptop?

Unfortunately I have to fly with them :o, Curse this damn Island lol! Ok so as a rule I avoid them if completely possible. I know there rules and it says I am allowed one piece of carry on as long as it fits their dimensions and is under 10Kg.

My question is a laptop counted? or would the laptop be the only piece of carryon I could take?. My plan is to check in one bag and carry my wheely as a carry on thus allowing me to carry 25kgs of luggage. 15kgs checked and 10kgs as carryon.

If the laptop is counted as my carryon would Ryanair allow me to put into my wheely thus 2 pieces of carryon become 1? Its just I need my laptop with me for this trip and obviously something so valuable cannot be checked-in to the hold.

I really don't get Ryanair they really are so anal with these things. Why not reward those of us who don't carryon with say 20 or 25Kgs checked capacity. It would allow for faster boarding and deboarding, the whole carryon is actually detrimental to a faster turnaround, it takes like a few seconds to load a few crates of luggage onto the plane with a forklift and unloading is as easy.

On most normal Airlines I'd just take a medium saved pull along with like 20 or 22 Kg and no carryon bar my travel docs in an envelope inside my coat pocket.

Lets hope this doesn't become another standard Ryanair nightmare scenario.

You can put your laptop into your carry-on luggage. You wouldn't be able to bring a carry-on bag AND a laptop bag.

I think you are allowed as the laptop is counted the same way as a ladies handbag. I've seen people go through dublin with wheely bag, laptop and handbag but some airports in Europe are very strict about it, Stanstead used to be so depends on where you're flying to.

I belive ethat you can carry the laptop as a separate item as well as have a 'carry-on' bag

I travelled from Cork to Liverpool with Ryanair, was fine going over with handbag and little carry on suitcase. when checking in coming back she weighed my carry on luggage, i dont know if she saw my handbag as it was on my shoulder kinda behind my back!! When going through security they said i could only carry on one bag so i had to put my handbag into my suitcase!!!!
So i would say it depends on who you get to be honest, pot luck!!
Although when going through security you have to take your laptop out seperately so probably can carry it and another bag??

If it's possible just put it in your other bag and take it out when you are at the departure gate.
Make sure you check in online or you will be charged in the Airport...

It's not Ryanairs fault, although you will sometime meet akward people at the checkin desks. The carry on rules are to do with it being a "security" issue you having more than one item. You'd probably get through no problem in Dublin with the two bags, just depends where you are flying too as to if you'll make it back with them both as carry on.

Thanks for the info guys, as it turns out I can now travel Aer Lingus albeit at €125 more but still worth it! Prague is my destination.

And I was planning to fly from Dublin on the Ryanair early flight, go to my mid morning meeting (will we ever see broadband suitable for video conferencing?) spend two nights and fly back again. However I will now fly there from Cork the night before, and spend three nights instead, thankfully my prior appointment has been cancelled leaving the day before free to fly out with Aer Lingus.

Aer lingus is 20Kg checked and 6kg carryon, I suppose it is one piece of carryoon again with them, I avoid flying and only fly to the United states, I always sail rail it to the UK and import a car home with me then :pac:.

At least with Aer Lingus I now have enough checked capacity making it OK to only carry the laptop as my only piece of carryon!

Aer LIngus are worse than ryanair. They have a good reputation built in the 1990's that's long gone....they are in the top 10 worst airlines in the world.

I prefer aer lingus to ryanair myself. More leg room, friendly staff, comfy seats.
