MCE and NTL Pace STB - IR blaster losing digits

Cryptic title for this thread, but it's exactly that - once in a while, my STB fails to change channel properly when MCE sends signals via the IR blaster - it's as if the sending speed is too slow, or else that the Pace STB isn't reacting quickly enough.

I have the IR blaster directly above the IR sensor on the box, and I have tried MCE with all sender speeds (slow/med/fast).

My Vista machine is up-to-date (although MC setup still doesn't recognise the STB, so still needs to learn the IR codes manually. Since there's still a bug (sorry, undocumented "feature") in Vista when learning IR codes, perhaps that's the cause ?

Anyone else see this peob ?

    Cheers

    Frank

    My setup:

STB is a PACE DC621KU connected to digital cable
OS: Vista Ultimate SP1 32 bit (Windows Experience Index 4.5, for what it's worth)
    RAM: 3.0GB
CPU: Intel Dual core 6400 @2.13GHz
    Motherboard: Intel DG965OT
    TV card: Hauppauge PVR150MCE
STB: NTL digital --> SCART --> SVIDEO into Hauppauge card
Graphics: Asus ATIRadeon X1650 at 1080p (512mb RAM dedicated, 1274mb shared system RAM, 1766MB total)
    Display panel: Wharfdale LCD47F1080P TV

    Confirmed as running at 1080p

I no longer use Vista's MCE but when I did, the only speed that would work for sending the IR commands was slow - med/fast would result in way too many glitches with commands not been sent. That said, once I got over the initial pain of setting it up, it did work reliably. I assume you had to "train" all the commands manually (as I did) since the Pace box is not recognized by MCE - when doing that, it's really weird with the Pace box remote, because you have to point it away from the USB IR receiver, then back at it, etc... There's a thread on that, by Subway, here:

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055215132

However, when I did this the first time, even though it seemed to work, I found some commands were not properly set up so if I changed to a channel that included the number "2", that digit was dropped and I ended up switching to the wrong channel. When I re-did the training for the IR commands, it worked fine with the speed again set to slow. That's about the only thing I can think that may be at fault in your case too...

In all fairness though, the UPC box is one of the worst I've ever used. Even switching channels with its' OWN remote, sometimes can take a couple of seconds to register...

Good luck with getting it solved...
