    Hi all

I'll be shipping a bass in hardcase to Belgium. Any clue who has the best rates?

    Cheers

Best thing to do is get accurate size and weight of the parcel and use the online calculators that most shipping companies have. Some will have restrictions in terms of size, and also insurance, so its hard to tell you who's cheaper without the full details and how much insurance is needed etc.

I highly advise that the bass is fully insured (if its any way valueable)...just a bad idea not to. Though obviously if the buyer wants to take that risk...

I have a rake of bubblewrap if you want it. If you'd posted the thread last week, i'd have had a nice sized cardboard box too :pac:

    Thanks Voodoo

It arrived in the hard case from the factory and was literally air tight with sticky tape. It's worth about 2k new so I suppose it's up to the buyer if they want insurance. I'll do a little research on dhl etc...

    Cheers

I have found the best rates to be AnPost.ie. They have an online calc too but I am not so sure about insurance up to the 2k value.

I found the same, but An Post will definitely not insure more than a couple of hundred euros unfortunately.

    I miss SDS. :(

Try P4d.co.uk I know a few people that have used and recommended them

Just make sure you read the small print - as what can happen is that although you pay for insurance because the items is a musical instrument in a hardcase (insurance can be void if not in a hardcase) the maximum insured value is dropped to £150 or there abouts. No one ever tells you this either - until you read the small print.

Shipped a 6 string bass to Hungary at the weekend. The usuals (DHL, Fedex, etc) were charging about €250 for it, did some searching and found a lot of smaller couriers out there, in this case one called Irfutar who specialise in smallish freight between Hungary and Ireland. It cost just under €100 and yer man will have the bass on Thursday, so it's worth investing a bit of time searching for alternatives to the standard comapanies.
