    Have a Mazda 323F with a problem.
WITH ENGINE RUNNING: - Will not drive

Gear lever can be moved but with no grinding of gears.
Clutch pedal soft but feels as if it is doing nothing.

Any ideas - gearbox problem or clutch?

    Any help welcome.

sounds like a clutch, whatever it is, you'll need a mechanic to look at it.

did this happen all of a sudden, or did it gradually get worse?

have a look under the bonnet to where the gear linkages go to the box and see if there's anything unusual down there

Reconditioned clutch - anyone have any stats on this, I can get one for €40. Do they have a reasonable life?

    Any guidance welcome!

Get a new one, along with a pressure plate and release bearing - not worth skimping on something like this.
