    Hello,

Quick question, not sure whether better suited to here or broadband forum.

If I get a basic NTL broadband connection (3mb, €20 per month) they want to charge me €6 extra if I don't want a TV package as well.

However, will I still get the basic analogue channels from them seing as my connection in my house will be active?

I remember seeing it discussed here before but dont remember the outcome?

    Thanks in advance

AFAIK you will but it is technically stealing (I think). Though perhaps they now charge €6 for analogue.

That sounds like Ireland alright. Charging you money for something you DON'T want. :)

The €6 charge is for having Broadband without a TV product. They are a TV company after all, so understandable that they would want to charge more to those who don't take their main product. The presence of the analogue is purely incidental, in that they can't switch it off if you have a broadband.

Thanks for the replies, so the signal is in theory there even if not advertised.

    Just wanted to be sure...

It also depends on where you are, if you're connected to the Cork UPC cable network you'd only get 4 analogue channels anyway i.e. RTE 1,2, TV3 and TG4.

In Dublin you will get the analogue channels by subscribing to Broadband only.

Seems like they're getting ready to scrap their analogue package system completely and push everyone over onto digital TV - for example, analogue costs €23.50pm for only 17 channels, yet you can sign up to their new "Go Digital Value" digital package with 38 TV channels (plus a few other radio channels) for €20pm and this includes the analogue channels signal anyway! And if you're already with them for TV, you can upgrade to digital value, but in doing so, reduce your monthly subscription by €3.50pm. AND any other TVs in your house connected to the analogue remain unaffected.
