"There are indications that Dublin's Metro North which would serve the airport and Swords may be deferred in the Government's package of cutbacks."

It'll never be built, mark my words

And to whom can we attribute that quote?

(It just doesn't seem to be mentioned in either the article you linked, or the text of the Minister's speech).

It was in the RTE story (as linked above) earlier in the day, but RTE did qualify it as a rumour. The Minister for Finance specifically refuted that rumour (in Irish) during the press conference in response to a question from TG4 about the Western Rail Corridor.

These were all election promises, just like the Navan rail link, Galway ring road and an improved health service.

LOL at the though of seeing any of that lot done.

I explained ages ago why I believed MN has been cancelled until the Interconnector is as good as built , or built even.

Contrary to what RTÉ reported, there has been "no decision" taken to cancel the Metro North according to the Taoiseach as reported in the Irish Times today.

Is "no decision to cancel" the same as a full blooded "committment to proceed"? You have to take him on his word but he was loath to say that the project is definitely going ahead with no ifs or buts.
No decision taken on future of Metro North, says Cowen

    MARIE O'HALLORAN
NO DECISION has been made about the future of the Metro North public transport project, according to Taoiseach Brian Cowen. Labour leader Eamon Gilmore asked Mr Cowen during Dáil Question Time about the project to connect Dublin airport and the Swords area with the city centre.

Referring to the Cabinet subcommittee on infrastructure, Mr Gilmore asked: "Has the Government decided to drop or defer the Metro North project and, if so, will the Cabinet subcommittee on infrastructure deal with that Government decision?"

Mr Cowen: "No such decision has been made by Government."

Mr Gilmore: "I thank the Taoiseach for telling the House the Metro North project is going ahead as planned. That is what I understood from his answer and if he wants to correct that, I am happy to hear what he has to say."

People on this board seem to greatly prefer rumour to fact. It's bewildering at times.

    Marked.

I'll start the thread when appropriate.

You clearly never read his speach.
