    Hi,

I bought a 92 Mercedes E190 2l last year, off peagasus classics in the UK and while its a great car, I have to say its not the most involving to drive.
I love the look of the BMW e30 and was thinking of getting one.
    What does everyone think?
    Am I crazy ?
Where would you pick up a good BMW E 30
    Thanks

I've driven the 190 and E30. Yes, the E30 is more involving to drive and the two cars have a very different feel. Drive an E30 for a while and see do you like it. Good ones are getting scarce... how about buying a banger of one to see d'you like it long term while you look out for a good one.

have been in both and driven relations both, all differant version, the 190, much easier to rive, the beemer, at legal speeds on say backroads or in the countryside.... Dont do the speed limit or you will get caught out as all the e30 has is ABS ;)

Most E30's DO NOT have ABS at all !!

To be honest the BMW will involve you a lot more, and if you go for a 6 pot it will be a more enjoyable drive.

However the E30 have a very outdated rear axles set up and whilst low suspension and wide wheels make them handle very well they are much more likley to catch you out if pressing on, especially in the wet.

I used to sell them and despite being quite used to them I still scared the cr4p outa myself on regular occasions.

The MB190E on the other hand has quite a sophisticated rear end set up, a development of which is still being used today on most Mercs. The only real problem is the engines arent keen and dont sound well, unless it a 2.3/2.5 16V, when revved. They also dont suit manual boxes and the auto is really unsporting.

That said they can be quick and rewarding to drive but I think true drivers cars need rack and pinion steering and 190E's like most Mercs dont have this. The result is rather dead steering but it does its job well and its the one thing I miss on modern Mercs is the way it insulates you from the road, most folk dont like this !

Having driven many E30's including M3 and a 190E Cosworth I would agree that the E30's are a more enjoyable drive on rural country roads and short spins while the 190 was far superior on long journeys

E30 all the way unless your looking at the 190 Cosworth Merc.

Personally i would go for the 325i Sport.

    Thanks,

Bit exspensive on the old tax thou.
By the way if you brought one in from the UK, i know the VRT would have gone up in price but how does the Annual car tax work?

    Thanks
