Has there ever been a part in the series as good as the last ten minutes in that episode? I mean just after Thorne gets killed and then the stand-off cliffhanger with "prelude to war" playing in the background.

I could watch that scene over and over. Brilliant.

Yup, definitely in my overall top 5 episodes.

Have you seen the extended version? It's excellent.

That's one of the best sequences in the series alright but there are a load of others that I love just as much (spoilers for the entire series):

    - The liberation of New Caprica
    - Apollo playing hard-ball with D'Anna over the hostages
    - The opening ten mins of Lay Down Your Burdens Pt 1, with the presidential debate and the Caprica rescue

    Others worth mentioning...

    In the mini-series:

    - The first scene on the Galactica with Starbuck jogging through the corridors and Adama practising his speech. Not a particularly eventful or dramatic scene but the first time I watched that scene I remember knowing instantly that I was going to absolutely adore BSG.
    - Adama announces that the entire Fleet has been destroyed.
    - Adama watches Apollo and Colonial One get 'nuked'.

    Season 1:

    - Starbuck comes clean to Adama about Zak.
    - Leoben getting airlocked.
    - A Good Lighter / Apollo destroys the Cylon base.

    Season 3:

    - Kara 'goes in'.

Definatly the best scene in Galactica. There's been some amazing scenes, but that one takes the cake. The music, the script, the acting....fan-****ing-tastic.

p.s. Anyone and everyone should get the soundtracks for the three seasons. Some classics in there, with Prelude to War being the best.

Even though I was sick and tired of seeing Michele Forbes pop up in every tv show I was watching at the time it still rocked.

Thought Michelle Forbes was brilliant as Kane, even though she was only in the series briefly I thought her character was very powerful and full of conviction even right up to her end, another credit to the writers. She really redeemed herself from her Star Trek: TNG days in my books.

    My favourite moments:

    Season 1:
Adama being shot by Boomer in the CIC. The timing was a bit unexpected for me.

    Season 2:
Kane standoff with Adama - Pegasus vipers face to face with the Galactica vipers.

Cylon Centurians marching down the main street on New Caprica and Baltar surrendering.

    Season 3:
Running battles while escaping from New Caprica.

Lee Adama thanking the Pegasus before abandoning it - Pegasus then taking out two Baseships before it is destroyed.

When the final 4 cylons become self aware - the darkness during the power outage in the nebula, "along the watchtower" music coming from the ship, etc - in the hanger when Tigh sees the others and says "Woooow". The arrival of the baseships and the launch of the viper squads.

    Season 4:
The encounter between Anders and the raider in Episode 1.

When the Centurians turn on some of the skinjobs and the Cylon civil war starts.

And of course the mid season cliffhanger when they find what appears to be Earth.

The first ten minutes in Lay Down Your Burdens Pt1 are hautingly good. That tune is the reason I bought the season 2 soundtrack ("something dark is coming") I actually have watch that teaser more than once in isolation.

Have you got miniseries or Season one soundtracks?
I got 2 firsy which is simply impervious, 3 was more so-so.

    Is one worth getting?

    I have.

The Miniseries isn't the best. It is a different composer and while the music is an excellent companion for the show, it doesn't really stand on its own very well.

Season 1 however is superb, and might just be better than season 2. A Good Lighter, Two Funerals, Boomer Flees, Passacaglia, Kobol's Last Gleaming and The Shape of Things to Come are all excellent, but above all there is Wander My Friends, which is the background track to the celebrations of the asteroid-mine attack mission.

Great, I found somewhere I can pick it up first. I keep seeing two of them when I look online, both are the Kara-Lee cover but one has a grey background and the other has a blue one. Tracklisting seems the same tho so I guess it is nothing.

Were you a little dissappointed with 3? I mean Martial Law, Pegasus, Lords of Kobol, Something Dark is Coming, Roslin and Adama, Prelude to war- I felt spoiled with 2!

But hey, if you say 1 is on par I'll get it in. Really, Bear is unbelievable.

Haven't gotten 3 yet. Must add that to the list.

worth getting, just not as good as season 2.

For AATW it is nearly an essential purchase tho.

i got the 3rd sound track for one reason. battlestar sonactica (music played during the baseship scenes)

Also one is worth getting, i bought 2, 3 and the mini series but i had to dl the first one because nowher ehad it in stock, the one i downloaded had about 20 odd tracks several of which are really good and where never in BSG

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,237 ✭✭✭✭noodler

Sorry, is that S1 or the MS you mean where there was alot of tracks htat didn't make it to the show?

You maybe didn't realise, some are so subtle. I mean not only is the version of Lords of Kobol on the show (at start of Pegsus when Cain first comes aboard) different to the album one but it is played so quietly that I hardly even heard it first time round.

Have to admit, it was something dark is coming which made me buy my first one i.e. season 2.

Been listening to the S3 soundtrack and I think it's fantastic.

Someone to Trust is a beautiful track.

Precipice, Admiral and Commander, Storming New Caprica, Kat's Sacrifice, Deathbed and Maelstrom and All Along The Watchtower - all great too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,237 ✭✭✭✭noodler

Heeding the Call is one of my favs from it. I just think it lacks the longevity of the S2. Kat's sacrifice is a beautiful piece and one I certainly recognised straight away from the show.

S1 one came in the post today, completeig my collection until the 4th one is out.

Just listenign to it now, alot of tracks for the smallest season but I notice alot are used in later soundtracks. Noting ras me yet but it never does in a first playthrough.

I like that version of the song....cant remember the name....but this version has lyrics (non-english) added to the melody (man's voice)

Is it "Wander my Friends" you're talking about? The lyrics for that one are as Gaeilge.

Wander my Friends is an excellent tune.

But, and i'm no expert on the irish language or anything (the leaving cert put an end to that!!) - but does else anyone think the singer's pronounciations is piss poor?

Thats the song alright! Not particularly loving the rest of the album. Obv alot of the songs are repeated in later soundtracks.

Thats what I get for starting with the best one (2)

Yeah, had to google the lyrics to have any clue what they were singing about!
