Hey, we were having a discussion the other day about programmes like The Osbournes, Viva La Bam and so on (basically all the MTV "reality" shows) about how real they were.

I'm of the opinion that they are pretty much made up crap, i mean they have story editors and such. On of the buddies say that it's all real, and the story editors just decide stuff like what gets aired and how to package it...

Are these shows scripted? Are they genuinely real? Or what?

(P.S. I hate these shows, but it was annoying us...)

Totally scripted. No way was that Sweet 16 episode with that Lorcan chap 'real'.
Imagine what a douche he'd be if he wasn't an actor?

    Ummm.... :D

They're practically 90% scripted.. without a shadow of a doubt!

    Ah the Osbournes.

Funniest part of that whole entire show was when they bought a car with voice-activated controls. Cue Ozzy arguing with the radio as it couldn't understand his jumbled words.

the super sweet sixteen thing is totally fake...

when the girls are doing voiceovers saying "I'm so rich, Daddy gets me whatever I want" etc., you can tell they're reading it off a piece of paper.

and if viva la Bam is real, then that boy needs a good slap across the arse

How could it be real?A "storline" is unfolding about somebody kidnapping somebody's truck and driving it to secret location 100 miles away.So we see the kidnapper making the call, see the other fool's reaction to the call and all subsequent "action" unfolding in "real" time with two seperate camera crews 100 miles apart.its actually quite insulting to the intelligence.

As part of my research for this post I checked the page (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0306370/) and it says Ozzy, Sharon, Jack and Kelly all play "himself/herself".

Therefore on this basis I can only conclude that the show is 100% real.

Speaking of Hulk Hogan he did state in court that Hogan Knows Best was made up.

    Osbournes...maybe 10% real?
Viva La Bam is completely scripted though, awful programme altogether.

Saw an ad on MTV1 last night previewing more of this 'reality' drivel. Coming soon all new series 'Brooke knows best' - Hulk Hogan's manish daughter is getting her own show...delight. Just when you thought it couldn't get any better a new reality show starring the ever talented Calum Best is starting in a few weeks.

    Can't wait:p

We can only thank God they stopped playing music on MTV, as otherwise, they'd not have enough hours in the day for all these reality shows, with obligitory multiple repeats!

it takes so long to set up places that they could of wrote the scene in that time..

its mostly done in the editing room... they can use footage that was shot 2 days before the main thing that they are showing... so lets say they have the kid talking to his mother and he then says **** off... whats not to say that was what he said? he most likly was shot at a different time...

i had to do a essay on it last year... in america all of reality shows are done in this way.. with most being scripted.. its to make sure its dumbed down for them...
