    Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources, Eamon Ryan T.D. today announced that the Greener Homes Scheme (GHS), having made over 22,000 grant commitments to householders towards the installation of new renewable energy heating systems, will move immediately to Phase III of the scheme. There will be a brief pause of the Scheme until the 22nd of July 2008 during which we will not accept any Phase II applications from homeowners or installers. Only applications received on or before the 7th of July 2008 will be accepted by SEI. While we understand that you may have clients who are in the process of finalising decisions and preparing application forms please advise them to hold off until Phase III of the Scheme is opened as it will only lead to delays in the processing of applications.

    Once the Scheme re-opens on the 22nd July 2008 only Phase III application forms will be accepted. Up-to-date documentation will be available from SEI or on the website from the 22nd of July 2008.

    The key changes to be implemented for Phase III of the scheme are;

    • Eligibility restricted to existing homes only (occupied for one year)
    • Addition of gasification boilers as an eligible technology
    • Slight changes in support levels for biomass

    For any of your clients currently in receipt of a Letter of Offer under the scheme these applications should proceed as normal provided that they submit their Request for Payment, with all appropriate documentation, within the designated twelve month period. The rule regarding no extensions remains so suppliers and installers are encouraged to assist householders meet these deadlines.

    I can see how a pellet boiler is worthwhile, but does anyone have experience of a pellet stove without a back boiler?

    I can't see the advantage myself, surely a cheaper wood burning stove heats a room just as well, if not better.
    Pellet stoves are expensive and the noise of pellets dropping would do my head in!

    I agree RKQ wood pellet boilers definately a good ides, payback time speeding up with the rise in oil costs!! Wood pellet stoves are very expensive to my mind whats wrong with a nice little stanley multi fuel, it can burn timber as well as coal, turf .... and only costs about a grand?

    No6 - i got a grant for a wood pellet stove its in my home office and is used for heating in the winter i didnt want to spend time lighting cleaning etc (i have a solid fuel range and charnwood 4 in other rooms) so made sense to put in a wood pellet stove.
