Good luck with your triathlon. I am trying my first one on saturday in athlone. You can read last year's results for tri athlone here http://www.triathlone.com/index.php?id=41
Judging by these results you should be well up in the top half of the leaderboard with 20-35-30 and still another month to train!

the majority of the people in Athlone are doing the triathlon for charity. Times will be similar to olympic distance times for some :)

At the sharp end sub 1:00
    FOP 1:05
    MOP 1:15-1:20

    Anything under 1:30 is respectable

I training for my first triathlon too in London in August. Because its my first one, I'm just going to be happy to finish the thing, but I reckon sub 1:30 is respectable. I'm thinking 20 - 40 - 25 and 5 mins for transistions. Its hard to tell how long the cycle will take because I've only ever trained with buses and traffic lights slowing me down. Good Luck!

Did my first tri there in Ballina over the weekend. Managed a 1.18.04. Amazing experience. Considering I was a committed smoker about 4-5 months ago and that I couldn't swim the length of a 20m pool when I started in Feb I'm dead chuffed with my results.

They should however include a warning to all newbies that the swim is going to be one of the most horrible experiences of your life. If I hadn't been so buzzed by adrenaline I'd have the considered the swim petrifying rather than simply excruciating. Thanks go out to the lad who accidentally kicked me in the face with 200m to go and left me with one goggle stuck to my face :)

25-30-30 is a respectable time yeah, i've done 2 sprints so far, the first was 1hr27 and the second 1hr21. if you can bring your swim time down without killing yourself you'll be doing well because if you exhaust yourself in this leg you're going to have a long way to go for the rest. I'd really recommend a swimming lesson, even just one will speed everything up you'll lose less energy.

Marty Farty, it goes without saying if you can train on the bike with less traffic lights, its better, best thing is to keep the heart rate up there. If necessary, spend 20 mins in a car to get to less trafficky areas, it'll be better in the long run.
