Just wondering is there anywhere on the web we can see county team players Height & Weight etc?

I notice when watching a game on RTE it gives all the players bio's (ie Weight & Height) but can't find them on the web anywhere?

Also just on another note.....what would you say the average football players height and weight would be compared to Hurling? ........to me the hurling players seem to be taller but footballers seem to have more weight on?

    Hazard a guess meself
Football Ave Weight: 14stone, height 5'11
Hurling Ave Weight: 13.5stone, height 6

What do you think would i be way off the mark here?

I think I read somewhere that the average footballers body fat was somewhere around 15%, where as the average hurlers body fat was around 18%, soccer players were 13.5% I think. Don't quote me on any of those, I'm just going on my memory which isn't quite that good! :D

It makes me laugh the way some players obviously exaggerate their height for the RTE stats. Always adding an extra inch or two, especially the smaller players.

The Kerry Team that took on Cork in the all-ireland final 2007 (including subs) was:

    Average Height: 6ft 1.5 Inch
    Average Weight: 13st 4lbs

    Taken from this website http://www.kerrygaa.ie/old_website/intercounty/2007/senfoot/final2007/penpics.htm

I'd be surprised if the average height was really that big, even allowing for Donaghy!

Well from that website of 30 players only 6 of them are under 6 foot.......from watching the munster final there last sunday that would be close enough.......both sets of teams looked quite tall.

I think it would be the other way.Hurlers don't have as much muscle on them and that is maybe the reason they look taller with the leaner figure.

I'd say average hurler is 5"11
    Foootballer 6"0

The average All-Ireland winning hurler in the 21st century is 6 feet tall and 13 stone in weight. FACT!

How many are actually both 6 ft and 13 stone? Surprisingly few...

They definitely do. Just recently I was in a bar and noticed I was standing beside a former county player from my county, he was much shorter than those stats would have suggested.

    Armagh
    Average Height 7ft 6
    Average Weight 20st
that's how they look on the telly anyway.

It is not just GAA players that add a couplf of inches to their height. I recently met the Celtic player Scott McDonald out for a few pints, I am 5ft 7in, according to his bio online he is 5ft 8in, but I was the taller one

Maybe he's 5'8" in high heels.

Is that what Dessie Dolan does aswell, might actually explain why he keeps missing frees infront of the goals ;)

p.s. you should know better than to have a pop at Scotty Mac :(

i think you'll find most hurlers are more muscular than footballers

less long range running in hurling, more explosive power needed to get to the ball, win it and use it.

its to do with the leg muscles. In most hurlers these are big cause thats where most of the power comes from. Look at O'Shaughnessy of Limerick. built like a tank

The Kilkenny team would be one of the most physical GAA teams in the modern era

Even if these are fictional figures it would only make sense that soccer players have lower body fat because they are professional athletes. GAA players are amatuers so havn't as much time to work on fitness and conditioning.

To me Football and Hurling teams would be built a lot more physical than Soccer teams in ireland.

The Cork City team that played Galway there on 4/7/08.......the starting 11 averages were as follows:

    Average Height: 5ft 10in
    Average Weight: 12st 3lbs
Body Mass Index for this average is 24.80

The Kerry team that played Cork in the All-Ireland final 2007........the starting 15 averages are:

    Average Height: 6ft 1in
    Average Weight: 13st 7lbs
Body Mass Index for this average is 25.30

Therefore body fat would be a higher for GAA players as they are built stronger.

Should have played it as a prelude to the Hurling imo would be a good day out for the lads, good luck in that one anyway.
