Due to problems experienced by others with some firmware updates, I think I'll wait for the rest of you to update to see if this one causes problems :D;)

Could be onto an idea there Dave...

Could really use in-game messaging tho. Hopefully they've got it right.

Just downloaded there and seems to be fine.

No problems on both a Jap and EU machine..
Then again I didn't have an issue with the 2.40 update either..
Or with every single update Sony has ever released since the Japanese launch..

Either way, an update on any consumer electronic device these days is potentially going to be an issue......you could lose power at an inopportune moment, HDD can get corrupted etc etc..
The unfortunate thing is that updates like this are an increasing neccessity and you are always going to have stories about bricked machines even though they could be limited to very few users........in the console industry we've already seen scare stories blown out of proportion around the XBox, the 360, the Wii, the PS3 etc etc..

Give it time, give it time...:D:D

I'm still going to wait my usual 2 weeks before updating just to make sure.

Just cause you're paranoid doesn't mean your ps3 isn't out to get you:cool:

Downloaded it today as I was looking to play FIFA online. Downloaded it and look the same as 2.4 (which I also had) so all in all it's working. Havent had any problems todate with any Sony updates but I still have my reciept on stand by just in case.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,533 ✭✭✭Zonda999

Downloaded 2.41 today(Fairly annoying as i had just downloaded 2.40 yesterday). Its all but useless for the moment tbh, except for the clock:)

I think the driving games should get the in game music patches first.I think they are the best for listening to music.Sony shouldnt be too slow putting it in motorstorm(Seeing as it is by themselves).I'm sick to death of the songs in that:mad:

Might be wise to sit tight for the moment on any update. I am still on 2.36 and just read the PS3 forums on the PS3 site. Most problems are DNS errors still and unable to read discs after update. These are common to 2.40 and 2.41. A lot of users had non-default themes applied before updates and that seems to be a precursor to any problems found later. Those who set the theme back to default before updating to 2.40 or 2.41 seem to have avoided the bullet.

Wait a few weeks before updating is the best advise for now.

    Thanks Damien, Good info there.
I think ill do that default theme thing tonight before updating.

As for Motorstorm, i agree, them tunes wreck my head, great game though.

id rather be able to sign into psn without the run around though

i've a non default theme and have had no problems with 2.4

i have noticed a message popping up saying dns error BEFORE i sign into psn. when i sign into psn then i've no probs.

I downloaded it this morning. No problems, but then I was lucky enough to have had no problems with 2.40.

what was wrong with 2.40, for them to do the update straight away

A number of users were not able to boot up the console after upgrading to 2.40. Sony pulled the firmware and did a quick fix and now we have 2.41. Luckily I wasn't affected and have been making use of some in-game messaging to set up COD4 games!

all i have to say is the update sucks ass!

it's unfortunate for those who've had problems but this update is probably the best and only one so far that has added anything,

it's only a firmware update - not a new console

gave a lend of my ps3 to my brother there for a bit and he came back to me saying it wasn't working and then left before i could ask him more.

to say i was bricking it would be an understatement.

turns out it was because i have it set for hdmi and he was just using the scart and didn't reset the settings. *phew*

anyways updated from 2.40 to 2.41 last night, no problems ala 2.36 to 2.40 but went to default theme just to be extra safe.

Does the ps3 operating system get larger with each update ? or
Does each update overwrite the last ?

    It overwrites the last.

Burnout Paradise patch came out earlier today as well (for anyone who still plays it !)...........so you can check out the custom soundtrack feature as long as your up to Firmware 2.41..
Should be worth a checkout for all you Burnout-owning PS3 owners who haven't sampled the custom soundtracks of Stardust etc etc..
IMO, though it works well in the game, even silence would be an improvement over the game's horrendous playlist :o

    Slightly off topic,
Siren demo is up on US PSN as well if you want to check it out (if you never bothered with the Jap PSN version)..
So along with updating to 2.41, downloading the 300mb+ patch for Burnout.....give the 500mb demo a go and that should keep your broadband nice and toasty for 20mins or so..

    It overwrites the last.

Thanks , I was starting to think it was like windows ,where the OS gets slower with time.

Yup, update worked fine for me, I never got the chance to download the earlier version before they pulled it.

Can't say I think much of it. The only decent thing seems to be the in-game clock :) Haven't tried in-game messaging yet.

Also, when I played a film for the first time the audio wasn't decoding or was doing it badly.

I kept getting disconnected from game servers all the time.

Downgrading doesn't seem so bad now.
