i've being thinking about this all day, i graduate from dit next year with a business degree specialising in accountancy. i'm currently working in an accoutants to gain some experience.

with the country in the state its in and the thought of what it would be like this time next year, my mind started to think about migrating next year.

i always said i'd stay here till i was chartered, but now i'm thinking of going to oz to do it. any one know if this is possible, has anyone done this, or know any one who has? and any idea what visa i'd need?

the old tiger brought the best and the worst!!

I don't think the accounting practices (big ones at least) are going to be lessening their recruitment anytime soon. So there's unlikely to be a shortage of work. Oz would be fairly cool none the less!

+1... if anything there will be more of a need for accountants.

Get fully qualified here and then go if you still want to.

ACA is linked with Australia so you would be recognised as fully chartered in OZ once you qualify. Plus you'd have no probs getting a visa as Accountants are a skill recognised by immigration (you get extra points)

First, I wouldn't be worried about finding a trainee postion next year, especially with a degree. If will be graduating with a 2.1 or better, you really have now need to worry, as most of the medium-big firms require a minimum of a 2.2, some a 2.1. Also, they have been increasing their graduate intake over the years. Even the small practices are constantly advertsing. To say the least, there isn't going to be shortage of accountancy position. It is one of the high skilled migrant jobs around the world, including Ireland.

If you choose to stay in Ireland, I would go fot wither the ACA or ACCA qualification as both are recognised in Australia. Also, once qualified, it will be much easier to find a job fomr abroad. Most companies want you to be available for the assessment day/interview for a trainee postion and are not willing to pay for you to come to it, except maybe within a certain radius. when searching for one in Ireland, I'm rfom the US, I didn't get an interview until I was in Ireland and available for interview. It can be done if you are able to visit Australia on your own and interview. Once I had an Irish address and phone number, I got positive responses. Just be warned that it may be difficult to secure a trainee position from abroad. However, once qualified, you should have no problem headin to oz. They recruite heavily on Irish job websites, as well as job websites in other countries.

If you still prefer to go to Australia, it seems to be possible, but more difficult than non-EEA persons wanting to study and train in Ireland or the UK. Here is the link to the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia: http://www.charteredaccountants.com.au/students/international_students/becoming_a_chartered_accountant. Also, there is a site of immigration forums. I was able to fins people on there to help me when considering immigrating to Ireland. They have one for Australia as well. You might be able to find someone on there who has gone to AU to train as an accounant. It might be worth checking out: http://www.immigrationboards.com/viewforum.php?f=7

    Good luck with it all!

I dony know if the intake level will remain as high next year as I have heard from a friend who has been offered a place in one of the big four firms next year that 17 offers were withdrawn from that office (luckily she wasn't one of them but 4 of her friends were) as the position would not be needed..... Then again even in the doom and gloom accountants are always needed
