Picked up a SilverCrest System ( SL 65 Receiver and 80 cm dish) at LIDL today. Can I simply connect it to a computer (for viewing on the flat screen) instead of a TV without adding another card to the computer?

Not unless you have a TV card/capture card in the PC.

You could go direct from SL65 to monitor/flat screen using a SCART to VGA cable, no need to turn PC on. You'd have to channel sound to Hi-Fi or speakers though.

Also, check your flat screen if it has any other inputs besides VGA (if it's upper end, may have S-video or other connections).
