Office can be bought here direct from MS.

    http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/marketplace/default.aspx

    Otherwise, OpenOffice is free.

Open Office is what you need.

It will open and save Word files (among others).

You can download a trial of office from the micro$oft website, but you must have a legit copy of windows to activate it. After that, you must buy it after the trial is over.

Word cannot be downloaded legally unfortunately. It comes as part of the Microsoft Office suite of applications such as Excel, Powerpoint etc and you have to buy this though its quite expensive.

I would suggest downloading Open Office, its an alternative to Microsoft office and is free. It also has a Word type editor that will allow you to save files so that they can be opened in Microsoft word on any other PC. (Says them as a .doc file).

IMO, its actually a far better product that Microsoft Office and completely free for eternity so you can't really go wrong!!.

You can also save the file as a "Rich Text Format" in Works and it will open in MS Word. When you click file -> save as , under where you type the filename there is a drop down menu.....select .rtf (Rich Text Format).

The openoffice idea is the best afterall free is cheap....and its not a bad program.

the problem with doing that is when you then send the letter as an attachment via hotmail
when you open it , the presentation is all widended out and looks redicolous

Well look, either deal with that, download OpenOffice, or fork out for Microsoft Office, but don't complain about the suggestions from people that are just trying to help. Sheesh!

    +1 for openoffice,
but then again I have word on my main PC, its just so much more familiar than openoffice to me, but in any case both are better than works.

You could try Microsoft Word Viewer, it allows you to open word documents, view them and print them off plus you can copy the text and paste it into Ms Works.

Word files will also open in MS Works, but as you are having difficulties with the files not being compatible your best bet is to download open office as other have suggested or buy a copy of MS Office.

Another quick solution is when you have your text for printing open in MS Works, go file > save as > save as type > and select *.doc Word 97-2000 and type the file name, the library computer or any other pc with Word will then be able to convert and open the file allowing you to print it. Alternatively copy the text into notepad if it is text only.
