    'Stop wasting food', urges Brown

Britons must stop wasting food in an effort to help combat rising living costs, Gordon Brown has said as world leaders discuss rising prices The PM said "unnecessary" purchases were contributing to price rises, and urged people to plan meals in advance and store food properly. A government study says the UK wastes 4m tonnes of food every year, adding £420 to a family's shopping bills.

As little as possible. I ain't a fussy eater when it comes to the types of food to eat as I'll try anything. I'm fussy about when I eat though but I try my best to consume whatever I have.

    I am a waster.
    Except with booze.
    Booze is important.

I eat pretty much everything I buy. The odd time I'll forget about something or get it into my head that it's probably gone off and fire it out, but for the most part I'm pretty good at consuming what I buy.

We try to minimize waste, but with children it's harder to control. I think I'm winning, they do eat it all most of the time.
Nothing worse than finding something at the back of the fridge that should have been eaten a week ago > bin!

Gorden browns a waster for suggesting we should not waste food when his goverment policys contribute to rising food prices .This at a time when he jets of to the world climate change summit in a jet guzzler contributing even more carbon admissions , ****ing Hypocrite

He is not the right person to lecture anybody on saving food , right as it is .He hasnt earned the respect to lecture anybody and he never will

At least he's copped on that more land used for bio-fuels means less for food! They are looking at reversing out of that cul-de-sac.

Never has a PM being so disliked by so many even amoung his own party .It's early days yet .He might do somthing to appease the mass's who if ever they needed appeasing it's right now !

I try eat what's there without bulking up on food that might not get used for weeks maybe .

I used to cook more than nessecary and end up dumping that which wasnt eaten.

Since i started coming home for lunch recently i started fridging/freexing food that was left over so at this stage absolutely minimal wastage I would think.

Unless it's greyish purple and is evolving into it's own micro ecosystem, I'll eat it.
I pay no attention to sell by, use by, best before or other dates, preferring instead to trust my nose and tastebuds. I make a point of looking for food close to the end of it's shelf life when out shopping, and not just because it's cheaper. Once anything raw is properly and thoroughly cooked then it should be safe...anything that's likely to make you sick like meat or dairy will stink to hih heaven if it's in anyway harmful.
Oddly enough both times I've ended up with food poisoning was eating takeaway.

I despise those f*cking imbeciles who throw armfuls of food into the bin just because a date it out or it looks slightly less than picture perfect...you know, the type that has the big fancy 20 grand kitchen but couldn't burn water. They should be dumped in a camp in Darfur and see what it's like. Yes that includes you.

I eat gluten-free food, and cos I can't eat much in the house - I gobble it all down like a piggy!

So I doubt I waste much. Maybe crumbs!

You're right. How could a prime minister possibly go wrong with a policy of appeasement?

Some things are predictable and i thought sombody might come back with a quote such as yours but yeah, it might be asking to much of any PM to do somthing that pleases the people .Would go against the grain of what being PM/politician is all about

Bit like Hitler sitting in his bunker thinking maybe it was a mistake invading Poland :D

I try not to waste food obvs. The worst is restaurants that give big portions that I can't finish, though. Many of them seem to cater for the largest possilbe appetite - it would be cool if you could order small or large size dishes instead of one-size-feeds-all.

  • Moderators, Arts Moderators Posts: 35,919 Mod ✭✭✭✭pickarooney

Wish I could find a restaurant with portions I couldn't finish... I reckon, apart from what the chisler throws on the floor more than six times, maybe about 1.50 worth.
