    hey.
i was thinking since I'm going on holidays next week i should start writing my application to trinity halls. i live in galway and trinity halls would mean i wouldn't have to search for private accommodation. what kind of things do they look for in an application? would should i include and stay away from.

How long are you away for? It's 6 weeks to CAO offers. Go enjoy your holiday and start thinking about your application when you get home, or better yet after you get your offer.

You don't have to worry about applying to halls just yet. Wait till you get your CAO offer, they then send out a postcard with the details on it (well they used to anyway). The deadline (I think) is in early September.

What do they look for? Well talk about your interests, how you want to become involved with plenty of societies and the students union (even if it isn't true :) ), play sport and are generally sociable. Living outside Dublin is a must for Halls. Be sure your application is clear and well written as well. They also say you've a better chance of getting a place if you're willing to share a double room. That said, I wasn't and got a single.

There is a lot of luck involved in getting a place as most non dublin first years apply, and they only have a week or two to allocate the rooms.
