Online retailers and exchange rates.

This seems to be a growing trend, online retailers cashing in on the lack of transparency in exchange rates. My latest example, play.com. Although by no means a new thing that they're doing, in this consumer conscious credit crunch age that we're in, it was bound to be highlighted sooner or later.

For example, an item that costs £10.99 costs €15.49 on play.com, whereas the exchange rate is €13.83, almost a full €2 dearer? Almost negates the whole "free delivery" thing. The price on games is even higher, some games you're paying €5.50 more for..

Name and shame them, thats what I say? Or am I missing something? Is there some logistics reason why this is calculated so?

Play's exchange rip-off is well documented on several fora here and has been ongoing ever since they started forcing non-UK customers to pay in euro. They have even admitted to some posters who questioned them on it, that the extra charge is to cover delivery. Makes a mockery of their "Free delivery" statement.

I bought a Dvd of Cdwow the other day the price was £9.99 or €16.99. I bought it on the english website which allows you to pay in Sterling and was charged €13 euro for it!
