    Hi,

I am off to barcelona, next week. This will be my first trip away with my Nikon D40, and I am looking for tips for where to shoot, what sights?
I have been on flickr, and had a quick look to see what others have shot as well.

Does anyone have any suggestions. I am thinking, monuments, buildings, city shots etc.

    thanks

    dave

    Obvious stuff:

Anything Gaudi related - Casa Milla, Casa Battlo, Sagrada Familia & Parc Guell

Las Ramblas is full of things to look at & take photos of, street performers, artists, assorted loons. The Boqueria market is cool too, Placa Reial is usually worth a look as well. The Barri Gotic area is interesting

Do be careful though - you'll hear a lot of bad reports about Barcelona and while I've been there twice & not had any problems I've heard other people's stories about being robbed over there. Mind yourself, especially towards the bottom end of the Ramblas at night.

One that I never hear mentioned much, but it pretty cool for photos, is La Pedrera. It's a Gaudi designed appartment block, but you can pay in to go into the courtyards and up onto the roof, where the chimneys look like the guards on the front of the Sagrada Familia.

I've only been there once, and I guess I was keeping an eye out, but didn't have any problems.

distraction theives are everywhere.....(woman with child trying to talk to you or asking for money whilst someone swipes your bag...)

common sense but I would stress be on your toes, be insured and don't carry more than you need

having said all that Barcelona is one of my favourite cities in the world second only to San Francisco - you will have a great time!

I've been to Barca twice never had any problems but that being said it's like every other city in the world obviously be aware of the people around you and where your walking.

I'd actually suggest getting on one of the hop on hop off tours it'll give you an idea at least of the scale of the place, and places of interest, this is Guadi's City you'll also find work by Joan Miro and There's a Picasso Gallery in the Gothic Quater someplace I only found it once and could never find it the second time. If your feeling adventurous and have the time you could always hop on the train and go to Figuress (not the correct spelling) to visit Salvador Dali's house and Gallery you have to see the place to believe it.

    Thanks everyone,

I shall look out for anything Guadi related. His name was mentioned elsewhere as well.

Thanks for the thief alert, it was something else that i heard about as well. Luckily I don't have too much gear, and I have travel insurance.

Barcelona is great for photography! The architecture is amazing and very varied. I had no problems with thieves, but I was also told to watch out for them (however I notice that whatever city I go to I'm told to watch out for pickpockets!).

    Casa Batillo is great!

Barcelona is renowned for its pick pockets, much worse than any other city across Europe.

Most of the main attractions are already listed above. There is the Olympic stadium too and you can get some cool shots from the cable car too heading to and from the port.

a mate of mine was etherised and robbed there. another friend had the rather bemusing experience of a hooker grabbing his hand with the intention of not letting go until he'd agreed to a 'transaction'. she gave up after an hour, and asked him for the lend of two euro.
