sky+ box in standby?

my pace sky+ box came on last night from standby mode, it stayed in standby mode but the hard drive was spinning, ive tried to unplug and plug back in, but still when it is in standby mode, ie the red light on the right is on the hard drive is spinning, and its a bit annoying as its in my bedroom is this normal or if not,…

note: auto standby is on, and nothing is recording

Sounds like HDD error. There is a way to reset the Sky+ box but you will lose all recordings on drive.
