A group of us are heading for Spanish Point towards the end of July (wives and kids in tow) and the lads have got passes to play golf on the Friday morning. Not knowing the area too well, I was hoping some of the knowledgeable contributors to this forum could advise on any good courses in the area.

There are 4 lads, and handicaps are 6, 9, 12, and 18. We're prepared to travel a maximum of 10-15 miles.

Edit: Just found a Spanish Point Golf Club on the web....looking into that but further suggestions welcome! :-)

    Cheers.

    Hello Madds,

Am heading down tomorrow for a while myself as I have a place nearby.

Spanish Point has a 9 hole coastal course which is of holiday standard in terms of presentation and difficulty, if you get what I mean. Good fun and cheap though.

Obviously, Spanish Point is equidistant between Lahinch to the North and Doonbeg to the South if you want to spend big bucks. Although the Castle course at Lahinch is a fair test and not too unreasonable.

Approx 15 mins away at Ennis you have got both Ennis and Woodstock Both of these courses have open singles comps on during the week for about €15 which is great value. I play these often and will be doing so over the next few weeks.

Further south there s also a nice links at Kilkee and an inland course at Kilrush which I have yet to play. Both are reasonably priced.

    Enjoy your golf in Clare!
