Hey all. I have an iPhone that was my buddies, it was lost and he reported it stolen, he since got a new iPhone and the old one turned up too (long story) So when he reported it stolen the girl on the phone said that the phone will be barred on Irish networks... does this mean the phone is now useless to use as a phone? Also im on meteor... i hear theres major hassle changing it over. So what do i do with it, is it just good for wifi and ipod?

And i tried putting my sim in it and it just comes up with no reception bars...

    Cheers.

They will have black listed the imei so it's useless on any network here.

Yeah the girl on the phone said it will take 36 hours to "white list" the phone again... The thing is, if he says the phone turned up will they want the new one back? Will unlocking the phone have any effect on the imei, any way of changing the imei?

They'll probably want the new one back.

Unlocking it will make no difference to the imei.

I remember hearing ages ago that there was but I'm fairly sure it's illegal.

Changing imei is illegal. People do it but if you get caught you will be screwed.don't bother to risk it,

Ok... I got it working perfectly, everything, itunes, youtube, the lot. I didnt need to change the imei. Ok does this mean the Gardai will be knocking on my door tomorrow morning? What have i done?! Is it possible they cant block the imei number on an iPhone?

Seriously am i in trouble here, what should i do?

I always thought that reporting a lost phone as stolen was illegal. in england it is anyway, not sure about over here.

maybe he's just one of those "I don't have my iphone so i'm gonna make sure nobody else can either" types. i compare it to blasting your gf with a shotgun after she runs off with someone else, but maybe thats a bit harsh.
