I was down at the Skerries 100 motorcycle race yesterday. This was my first attempt at high speed photography. Fortunately we had a great day by way of light (as against what was forcast). I'd welcome come C&C.

    Thanks

    Nice pics!
    What was your set up?

The only thing i would say it that the last one kind of lacks action as i can tell straight away that the rider is on the warm up or celebration lap because of the way he is sitting

    The second is my fave

    2nd is very good yes.
Have you done this type of shooting b4?

I think the 2nd is good.
Could you crop the bike out of the top left corner?

I agree about that it would of looked better if the whole bike was there. its kind of distracting just leaving abit there

No, the whole thing needs to go, in order to draw the attention to the lead bike.

I think the whole bike, out of focus, on the horizon would have added an extra element to the shot personally.

But i doubt that it was framed in such a way, so the best bet is to get rid of the bike completely.

    Nice shots BTW

    like the photo's.

heard a man in his 70's was badly injured. bike went over another one that crashed on the road and went into a garden, fuel tank exploded and doused a spectator. Hope he is ok.

Thanks for the C&C so far. I've been getting back into photography for the last whilst and saw the notices on the boards for the race. I've never done speed before, so I was just interested in the challenge. I found trying to capture the motorcyclist with the motion blur the most interesting and hardest to achieve the money shot on.

As for the middle shot - I thought he was taken out by a crop, but then I re-adjusted to give more drive-into the shot, and missed him . I've readjusted and removed the offending bike below...

These shots were taken up around the glasshouses area, so I was not aware of the accedent until I got home yesterday evening. With the speeds these lads do, when they crash, there's normally more than one bike, the spectator was very unfortunate. Hopefully he'll recover fully.

The second one (updated) is a great shot. I would imagine it's no joke to get a shot at that speed.

    Much better shot now, Buzz.

Heard about this heard two bike collided and one went over a wall,Every bike racing event they always say how dangerous it can be and you're attendong at you own risk!Never hear of many spectatotrs getting injured though
    Hopefully he'll be ok

Anyone else notice how the eyes on the middle guy in that second shot are looking straight at the camera? I wonder if he's the one that crashed...

I have plenty of pics of them doing this i can't believe they would as normally they are easily travelling at 100mph plus

1 and 2 are really nice, I would straighten number 1 too (he probably is going down a hill)

Thanks for the C&C. I really appreciate them. In relation to the guy looking at the camera, thought you might enjoy this one. It didn't make the grade for the final set, however the lead motorcyclist's eye's are almost looking at you !!

BorderFox, I tried the top shot level, however I thought this version gave more impact and motion to the scene, however I'm open to advice.
