    Harbour House Shooting Ground
    48 Shot WA1500 Short Course
    Saturday 5th July 2008.
    Match Report and Results:

Another great days shooting at Harbour House Shooting Grounds. Weather appeared to be really against us at the start of the day, it accounted for a late start and first shots were not fired until 10:45.

There were shooters from a number of clubs, Harbour House of course, City of Dublin Pistol, Club, Midlands, DTSC, STA and it was great to see a contingent of shooters all the way from Sligo’s Lough Bo shooting Club.

Individuals also travelled from Cork to participate. Both lads from Cork shot .45 calibre and it was great to see these low capacity pistols handled in such a way as to compete well with the higher capacity .40 and 9mm’s.

There were 29 competitors in all, one lady participant from Harbour House, we were also delighted to see the individuals with revolvers give them an airing, these wheel guns showed no disadvantage when pitched against the higher capacity pistols, MP from STA was placed 8th with a 4” S&W and a great score of 455 ex 480.

The weather was kind to us throughout all details and while many compeditors had to stand in large pools of water while shooting, nobody complained.

Precision Pistol shooting is what it is about and we witnessed much of this on the day with two lads from Hilltop tying for first place on 474 each only 6 points off possible, separation was by the highest number of X’s achieved and JK from Hilltop proved his metal with respect to this.

The usual lunch break was called around 13:30 and the local hospitality of Tommy and the crew from Harbour House was evident with a large selection of sandwiches and copious amounts of tea and coffee. Compliments to the catering staff and all included in the shoot fee.

There were prizes for the top three shooters sponsored by Curragh Carpets, many thanks to them.

Shooting finished at around 15:00, re-entry was permitted on the day to encourage improvement and allow people to enjoy them selves. As a result 29 compeditors accounted for 72 rounds of the 48 shot competition, with two sighter’s permitted at the start of the shoot, it means that the day accounted for 3,600 rounds of ammunition expended on the day.

Many thanks to the range staff who ensured that all details ran smoothly and efficiently, Range Safety Officers from the club were present to help all compeditors enjoy the match in a safe and friendly manner.

Looking forward to the next shoot already, hopefully early August, will keep you all posted.

    Bob
