Indie Bars in Dublin

One thing I hate about pub's in Dublin is the god awful music. Anyone know a decent bar in Dublin that plays good indie music at least once a week? I'm not talking about Doyles or Whelans, just want a bar I can sit down with a quiet drink and listen to good music.

The problem with indie bars is that they tend to be filled, primarily, with c**ts.

Yes c**ts. Increasingly of the poser/permanently shoe gazing/teasing my extremely unkempt looking hair although I spent 2 hrs styling it type c**ts.

Yeah, Antics is on a Wednesday. Not the place for a sit down and a quiet drink though. More the place for hanging out with the 17 year old fringe parade.

Anseo on Wexford street is deadly. Nice relaxed atmosphere and usually very good music.

Downstairs in the International has decent music and is good for a quiet pint I find. A bit grotty but I like it.

I love The Hairy Lemon! Although, I wouldn't really call it an Indie bar.

I like The Foggy Dew and Eamonn Doran's during the day. Haven't been after 7PM but I can imagine they'd get pretty busy.

Agree there is limited good Indie bars in Dublin and of what there is they are filled with the "shockwaves brigade" poser types.
I have been toying with the idea of setting up a couple of Indie nights in my familys city centre pub ,and would like to gauge the interests of people on here as to what they would like to hear playing on a night out.I've been to Whelans and the rest of the others and think what they do play is fairly limited.I just think it would be great to go to a place and hear something you never expected to hear in a Dublin pub, its not happened yet so I really am considering doing it myself, the only thing is its not solely my place and one or two slow nights and they may scrap the idea.
A line up i'd be looking at that is not common would be as follows..Band of Horses, wolf parade, wire, twilight sad, sunset rubdown, mogwai, sparklehorse, sea wolf, shins, pinback, pavement, the national, my bloody valentine, midlake, les savy fav, andrew bird, camera obscura, bat for lashes, animal collective, bon iver, british sea power, the decemberists, clap your hands, deerhunter, explosions in the sky, built to spill, grizzly bear, modest mouse amongst others of a similar genre and then a few golden oldies thrown in for good measure.then if it all goes well even look to bands playing.May even have a strictly no poser's rule at the door.
if anyone has personal fav songs that they never hear when out feel free to suggest.

I'd be interested poltergoose as well.

Might be a good idea as well if you go ahead with it to have a thread here that people can request songs before they head in for the night.

Next to The Brog? Never been as I was too young to get in when it was open but I've heard great things about it!

But yes, there's a Hairy Lemon in Dub too - around the corner from Drury Street on Stephen's Green side.

    Which pub?

Don't want to give the name of the pub as nothing has been set up as of yet and its not a pub thats known for its music traditonally, but hope to start something on saturday nights in the next couple of weeks.
Like the idea of having people request tunes before they go out, also I have been thinking of this idea where when a decent alternative band are playing in Dublin having a specialist night in the pub where after the gig people can go and hear pretty much most of the tunes of whichever band was on, seen as most good gigs seem to for some reason be on monday, tuesdays and wednesdays theres nowhere to go afterwards this would be something i'd love for myself as nothing is as bad as leaving a great gig and wandering around for half an hour in the rain not knowing where to continue the buzz.Anyway will let you know when I get something going.
