    ADSL synch:
    Downstream Speed 2560 Kbps
    Upstream Speed 64 Kbps

    Local Tx Power: 11.95 dB
    Remote Tx Power: 19.57 dB
    Local Line Atten.: 31.5 dB
    Remote Line Atten.: 28.0 dB
    Local SNR Margin: 5.5 dB
    Remote SNR Margin: 5.0 dB

    G:\>ping www.google.ie

    Pinging www.l.google.com [66.249.91.103] with 32 bytes

    Reply from 66.249.91.103: bytes=32 time=2240ms TTL=236

Theres something physically wrong with that line.

With attenuation figures like that (Very good!) there is no way you should be getting SNR margin figures as low as 5db when synced at a paltry 2.5Mb.

Un plug every phone device in your house and all extension leads. Plug the modem in to the first eircom phone socket in your house with a short phone lead and NO filter. Power it up and get the above readings again to see if there is a difference.

If the SNR margin shoots up then you have an internal wiring problem - plug things back in one at a time (with filters) to find the culprit.

If not - then it looks like a physical problem elsewhere on your phone line (Try and get a loan of someone elses modem to rule that out before getting back on to UTV).

ye what the hell , there is something causing massive problems on that line, ur SNR is almost like non existent

have u got any security system installed etc etc?

Have you tried plugging into the main phone socket in the house?

Ahh tried it all mate and just gave up, tried different modems( 3 ), different phone wires( several ), with and without filter with no phone connected, rewiring the main socket( and removing the connections to the other sockets around the house ), using the DSL test socket, checked telecom wiring into house, nothing works, been onto utv for several months, eventually Eircon just said nah, no problem with the phone line and we dont guarantee ant level of service, its rate adaptive so your broadband upload and download are fine and within the level of service we provide

Not only that, but i get regular disconnects because of the SNR and can take half an hour or more to get an IP address from PPP lol

I was at least hoping somone would have worse, lol

I gave up on the whole thing so were moving house soon so we can get better braoadband, lol, gotta love Eircons monopoly
