Vista Shutdown error.

    I need a bit of advice about an error I get when I shutdown my vista home edition PC. During to shutdown process a window pops up with the following error.

    "schtasks.exe - application error"
    "the application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000142). Click OK to terminate the application."

    I've tried googling the error but I can't seem to find a solution. This error seems to occur on many machines in lots of different ways and with different apps. It doesn't happen every time I shutdown, and as far as I know nothing is different on the machine between the times I get the error and the times I don't. Any suggestions?

    Have you any Scheduled Tasks running ?

    In vista, right click on "Computer" and hit Manage, and Hit Task Scheduler and checkout "Task Scheduler Library" See if theres any tasks going on there that shouldnt be, check to see if theres any tasks running;

    If so hit end task and try restart and see what happens.

    Generally on Vista there shouldnt be any tasks running, Some AV Products do create jobs to download updates etc... so just be cautious about that..
