How do you know which of your photos has made the explore page on Flickr (one of mine has). Tried help in Flickr and Googled it as well to no avail.

Thanks for that Roen.:) Found straight away. It's interesting that the photo concerned has had 36 views and makes it onto explore, yet another one with over 300 views doesn't. Although I did see a comment that one user had a photo with over 4,000 views and no explore either.

It's got to do with views, within a certain period of time.
To be honest, it has about as much value as the "medals" that people award you.
Some people take it all way too seriously!

    Which pic was it?

Not taking it too seriously City-Exile - just curious. Enjoying the photography too much.:) Dave, this was the pic concerned:

I wasn't talking about you, Freddie.
Some people come on to your stream to congratulate you on making it to explore.
To be honest, I'd be much happier if one of them bought a print, rather than filling my comments with badges & awards.

I get a few of these lovely cool awards. Getting more and more lately, for some reason. They are quite annoying really.

Have to agree, I'd prefer if people would buy prints.

Have to agree with you there. Only one or two myself, but some photos I've left comments on are inundated with those things.

I don't get any of that award bolloxology... possibly because of the quality of my stuff :pac:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,381 ✭✭✭✭Paulw

I don't always think it has much to do with quality. I think it's more that someone sees your photo and likes it. It's not like the awards actually mean anything.

    I've one image on Explore.

Most people giving out awards are trying to fill a quota, because they've joined a group with some stupid rule like "Post One, Award Two."
I love nothing better than dumping a load of images into these groups & awarding none! :D

I've noticed quite a few people warning that comments with awards will be deleted.

out of all the people who post here only the op has been explored ,while i was active on a teenage photography group i found that alot of teenage girls got explored with images that were ok but compared to pics seen on people flickrs here your pics are on a totally different level

Four of my photos are in explore ,which I knew nothing about:(

I had plenty pictures in Explore, Ricky.
They drop out after a while.
It seems to help if you post your pictures at a time when a lot of yanks are online.

So many people on Flickr are amateurs, so getting recognised by Explore is a little mark of success... or at least that some of one's photos are better than others in the logarithm that Flickr "objectively" uses.

A quick way to find Explore photos is to key a Flickr name into the BigHugeLabs search engine.

I have had ten photos in Explore and am now interested in the colour schemes that seem to have the best success.

The photos can be found by scrolling down this page:

I've had 61 in explore, but there again some of the stuff I put on flickr is of a fine art nature which seems to help. I also think it depends where your clicks are coming from and their frequency. It doesn't seem to depend on views or faves. If that was the case I'd just upload pictures of cute girls in bikinis or less.

I routinely delete comments containing those stupid animated GIFs. I hate them.

Ive never had a photo in explore :(
I dont think that its from the number of views over a short period of time, rather a combination of views, comments, fav's etc.

There's a greasemonkey script that will hide all those awards crap. Don't remember where I got it but google should have it.

I meant to say in another thread that the "Hug" picture with nearly 200,000 views never made explore so there ya go. For new people, the reason it has so many views is because someone put it on Digg and the views went ape **** mad for a week or two.

I would like to know more about this.

Fine art used to be sepia and blue toning, preferably with loads of dof technique. What are the current trends?
