HTC TyTN II - Someone's attempt to crush the self employed?

Just got the HTC TyTN II on a three upgrade and I'm convinced it's part of a larger plot to destroy the economy through demolition of one's ability to get any work done...

The device uses Windows Mobile 2006. I use a laptop for work equipped with a regularly updated version of windows Vista.

My last phone was Nokia E65, not being a coke-fuelled high finance exec Vista Calendar and Windows contacts where sufficient to keep my diary intact. The nokia was fully capable of syncing with both these applications and I thought it a reasonable assumption that a Windows phone would be able to seamlessly talk to these common windows apps.

Turns out it was an unreasonable assumption. The Tytn needs outlook. OK fair enough, maybe with a more pro phone an upgrade to outlook is reasonable. The phone came bundled with a trial version. I installed and clicked straight through to the buy this program bit.

After giving my life story to microsoft to be allowed give them money it turns out I have to either buy a microsoft office suite to get outlook or buy one bloated out with a load of crap that more than doubles it's cost. Alternatively I can buy a big boxed one with the carbon footprint of a Brazillian Amazon Oil Exploration corporation...

The trial version was able to port over my calendar at least but my contacts are in limbo. They're in the trial outlook but not syncing to the phone...

The phone itself is more a computer than a phone. To access the few numbers I had to manually put in you've got to pull out the keyboard or pen and type out the name. To dial you have to open a phone app.

The whole device wants me to demolish it.

Can anyone hook me up with some hints as to a program I can download and pay for digitally to manage my diary on phone and PC and my swap contacts to and from PC? I can still bring it back too so can anyone also maybe recommend a friendly handheld with a keyboard and some sort of wordprocessor with HDSPCA on any network or one I can put on the Three network?

    Any help is much appreciated.

Hi Thomas... Welcome to windows mobile...

follow the link to a download for the onscreen keyboard of the touch diamnond:
http://forums.ixplora.com/index.php?showtopic=12 with that you can get rid of the stylus for typing (the cab contains a full qwerty, a 3x4 and a funny inbetween, all fingerfriendly...)...

before you decide to return it visit handango.com and freewarepocketpc.org - check out the load of apps available ;)

but maybe you should return it and wait for nokia's e71, which seems to have all the things you want!!!!!!! e7r hands-on: http://forums.ixplora.com/index.php?showtopic=834

    for vaious sync alternatives:

    .

Tom i'd nealy give it back and get yourself a Viewty as an upgrade, I've been playing around with the titan and I think it's an absolute pig of a phone. the touchscreen is **** and it weighs a ton, way to heavy for normal day to day use.........and way to fiddly...

I've an e65 and LG KU990, the e65 is perfect for normal day to day work and then when i'm away for the day I take the LG for my emails as the onscreen keyboard works a charm and it's easy to type on using your 2 thumbs.....

    You've 14 days use them;)

LG Keyboard is Great.....and the phone is light and stylish!! Give it a Try!!

Robbed those pictures off the internet, mines on 3 not Vodafone....

Well, I'd actually agree - Thom sounds inconsolable with a tytn...but a viewty instead??? What he needs is a phone that syncs nicely, a phone with a full, front-facing qwerty... The viewty's keyboard's not bad, but you can see what? A line or two of text? That must be really great for editing long emails on the go so you can send the corrected version back in time for a deadline... Or to edit a spreadsheet!??? A viewty???
    Hahaha...

Between the e65 and a viewty he should be able for most tasks for the small business.....

The LG is great for viewing spreadsheets and the zoom feature is great especially on a mobile phone.....ok you can't edit the spreadsheets without buying a 3rd part app but I can live without editing spreadsheets on the fly.....that's what my laptops for....

As for the emails, keep them short and sweet and you should't have a problem.........my guess is op likes to waffle on his widows mobile 6 smart phone toucscreen tytan II HYTCN:P

I had intended to repalce the e65 and viewty with the Tytan.....ain't going to happen......it's neither a good laptop nor a good phone...and after using the LG for 6mts you can tell a good touchscreen from a bad one straigh away...and the HTC definatly sucks...
