with the need for 4 strong team in ireland and with the fact that the irfu will not develop the sportsgrounds as they don't own it. is there a case 4 connacht to play there rugby at terryland park.

with galway united in financal difficulty the irfu could buy a share in the ground at a cheaper price, then the facilites could be developed to generate money for connacht so they could grow.

i no terryland park is not the biggest ground but bristol play on a pitch the same size pitch with bruistol rovers so why cant gound sharing work in galway.

i think connacht have to develop some how or i see a situation the same as the borders in scotland where they were closed down because the sru where in debt from murrayfield

We'd play again in Athlone before ground sharing and that's pretty unlikely, thank god.

that seems a little extreme to dismiss the idea after all fans now are demanding better facilites and if the irfu are not going to develop the sportsground then connacht will have to move somewhere else in the future, so where are they going to go?

Connacht don't own the Sportsground so the IRFU don't have too much to gain by putting much money in there.

While the Sportsground is the worse of the provincial grounds, Terryland is nothing special either so is there much to gain by moving?

at the moment no but with galway united in financal difficult the irfu could buy a share in terryland park and then have a ground to develop. it wouldnt have to be terryland park but i cant see connacht using pearse stadium

It would be the shortest rugby pitch in the country then, or you'd have 1 metre in-goal areas. The Terryland pitch is 102m long, with the perimeter wall very close to the edge of the pitch. AFAIK the minimum in-goal area for a standard rugby pitch is 10m? If you were to shorten the pitch to allow for decent size in-goal areas the 22 would be about 5m from the 10m line...

Bristol Rovers FC play on a 105m long pitch (full FIFA regulation size) and have more spare pitch areas behind the goals. Galway United by comparison have a 102m long pitch where the goals are practically in the concrete. There's probably over 10m in difference between the grass area length.

Personally, I don't think that regular rugby and football would co-exist well through a Galway winter and it might just end up being a muck pile with expensive repair costs for both parties.

It's summer football for the past few years. The leagues would barely overlap. That's beside the point though. It won't happen and probably shouldn't. Terryland is actually a worse place to go than the Sportsgrounds.

terryland is owned by the galway district league, not by galway united. their financial troubles have nothing to do with the idea of ground sharing.
