Problems with action on bass?

Hi guys, forgive me if this sounds stupid but I only have my bass a few months -

When I got it I noticed that there was a loud clicking whenever I played from the 2 lowest strings hitting the pickups, and the higher frets on the neck so I brought it to a music shop, and the guy told me the action was far far too low. So he did some twiddling, and the bass was grand for a few months - but now I'm noticing the strings hitting the fretboard again, and it's especially annoying when playing something soft with your fingers as the clicking ruins the effect. Is it normal for the action to do this? Does it sound like the action at all? And if so is there something I can buy to maintain the bass myself?
I have a Fender Squier Jazz Bass (glossy wood, think the bassists from Paramore and Elbow)

    Thanks for the help:)

Depending on each individual instrument, and where you keep it. The relief of the neck can change on a seasonal basis or sooner than that. Some instruments need little to no adjustment for most of their life. But, each piece of wood is different ;)

You should already have the basic tools to do this yourself. 99.9% of basses come with allen keys, these are used to adjust the truss rod and also the bridge saddle height. The next thing that's good to have is a ruler to measure. This should be enough to do a basic setup yourself. :)

All you need now is the knowledge. Here's a link with details how to setup a bass. http://www.tunemybass.com/bass_setup/
