is it possible to get a week package holiday for 2 people for less than 500 euro? ive been checking budget travel and a week in salou in august for 2 people is 1300 quid. that seems awfully pricy for one week away.

ive often heard of folks getting a weeks package somewhere for like 400-500 total cost. is what i heard just too good to be true?

To get deals like this for july / august you have to book holidays from work then go into a travel agent 2 days before and get a last minute deal. These would be usually where people cancelled their holiday and that is why they would go for cheap.

Its very hard to get holidays for this price in July or August. These are the two busiest months of the year so tour operators know that they dont have reduce prices. Almost everything will sell anyway. Whatever is left on flights a few days before departure may be sold off at a reduction but it almost certainly will not be for 500 for two people. If you get anything around 800 you should take it.

You should check RTE Aertel (page520) for holidays it gives a list of operators and late availability. I've found it great in the past for last minute deals. Of course whether this is any good to you or not depends on when exactly you want to travel and whats still available. Check it out you might find something cheapish.

For e500 you may be lucky to get the ars*e end of the holiday season in some deserted holiday resort. Several years ago myself, the ex and two mates thought we were smart and booked a very cheap package deal for the end of September in Corfu. It was the worst experience we ever had and spent most of the time bring bottles back to the apartment as all the clubs and decent bars were boarded up for the winter within 10 miles of the resort. It was also like an Irish summer, ie cold miserable and wet.

There are some pretty good deals around at the moment on the Budget Travel website €297 to Salou for a week each leaving on the 14th July.

August usually is a bit more expensive I booked a last minute deal with Sunway last year for €399 each, it was in a remote area and we needed to rent a car (holiday was brillant and hotel gorgeous). Sometimes i'd say you can get a good last minute deal but be prepared that it might not be as great as if you were paying full wack. You get what you pay for..

€600 would be more like it for july.of course you can get a bargain, but be careful. use sites like

    www.tripadvisor.com

to checkout the resort/hotel.got great deal twice before, but used net both times to check options and gave a good few a skip.
    good luck
