Im surprised (or mabey not) that there hasnt been 1 thread about Moores fight tomorrow night. It is great to see another promoter on the scene and bringing a new player to the table in TV3, obviously the numbers make sense and this must be an endorsement of the general publics interest in the sport but has Egan backed the wrong horse in having Moore as his main boxer and headlining to a crowd who obviously dont have much interst in him (judging by the lack of posts on here and the scant media coverage). I have nothing against him and actually rate him as a fine talent and hopes he does well but does the irish public have an appetite for him headlineing tomorrow night and for future fight nights?????????/

I think Moore can attract an interest with the Irish public, but you have to start somewhere and for Moore this is the place . An entertaining stoppage of Healy(which is what I expect) will get him some amount of attention over here, although not as much on TV 3 as it would on RTÉ .

Here's what I wrote on another forum about it :
Tonight Jamie Moore challenges Ciaran Healy for the Irish Light-Middleweight title in Dublin . Provided nothing goes wrong(and it really shouldn't) Moore's next bout will be for the European title against Zaurbek Baysangurov .

Also on the card is ; Paul Hyland v Marc Callaghan for the vacant Irish Super-Bantamweight title . Paul is often considered the best of the Hyland brothers and considering the other two recently won Irish titles with impressive wins(Eddie over Kevin O'Hara and Patrick over Paul Griffin) Paul is under pressure to emulate their success .

Callaghan is vastly experienced and has wins over Ian Napa(conroversial) and Andrew Ferrans, aswell as a draw with Michael Hunter . It's the biggest test of Paul's career to date but he should come through .

Kiko Martinez makes his return since losing to Rendall Munroe for the European title, he takes on Lante Addy who recently lost a Commonwealth title challenge down at Bantamweight to Jason Booth .
Martinez should have too much power for the game Addy and provided he is succesful Martinez will go on to rematch Munroe for the European title and should he win he is hoping to get another chance to destroy Dunne in Ireland again .

Patrick Hyland, Paul's older brother who as I mentioned recently beat Paul Griffin for the irish featherweight title takes on Geoffrey Munika . Munika drew with Colchester's undefeated prospect Lee Purdy just over a week ago . Munika has a positive record going in (16-10-1) and has only been stopped twice in good company, going the distance with Somsak Sithchatchawal, Justin Juuko, Spend Abazi and Matt Zegan .
He should be a stern test for Hyland who may have ideas about pushing on towards European title level .

Gary Spike O'Sullivan has been making waves with his serious power, winning all of his first 3 fights inside the distance . He takes on a man with a very poor losing record Eugen Stan(4-38-1) but Stan has never been stopped despite being in there with some pretty decent fighters . Stopping Stan would indicate that O'Sullivan's power really is genuine .

John O'Brien takes on the unknwon Anghel Florin at Cruiserweight , Florinin only has 1 fight and that was a first round ko so who knows what to expect . O'Brien often isn't in the best of shape but is good to watch and will make it exciting .

To complete the card Michael Sweeney gets a very soft touch with a journeyman, also at Cruiserweight .

This card has some historic significance to it, it will be the first time that TV 3(Ireland's second national broadcaster) shows a boxing card and it will be the start of regular boxing on the channel .

There should be plenty of action on the card and even a mismatch like Healy and Moore should provide excitement while it lasts .

    predictions:
    Moore TKO Healy 3
    Paul Hyland PTS Callaghan
    Martinez KO 4 Addy
    Patrick Hyland PTS Munika
    O'Sullivan PTS Stan
    O'Brien ko Florin(total guess)
    Sweeney TKO Catalin

It's great that TV 3 have started with their 'Big Time Boxing' and I just hope it is a success so it can continue . However I have heard ticket sales for all Irish fights are down at the minute, lets just hope there is a big tv audience at least .

GREAT ,..... should be a good nights boxing,....
Btw , when you say TV3 are showing regular boxing shows ,..... can you elaborate on that ?

AlanCeltic is right , its odd how theres no chat on this card , no mention of the Holt - Torres card televised later either, Mind you , a lot of people will not have known about the TV3 do later.

I knew Holt v Torres was coming up, and I knew it was on Setanta but I didn't know it was tonight, cheers for that .

Well as far as I know once things go reasonably well tonight TV 3 are going to commit to Tommy Egan and show boxing on a reasonably regular basis(around as much as RTE). Pat Magee(Kiko Martinez's manager) has said that not only do they want a rematch would Dunne should Martinez reclaim the title but also that they want it on TV 3 . Now that's unreaistic in my view as they are never going to outbid Brian Peters and RTÉ but he wouldn't be making comments like that unless he felt that there was a basis that TV 3 are going to back boxing properly .

Comments from Tommy Egan also idicated regular boxing should things go right but this was from a little while ago and I can't remember where to find the articles . Anyway I don't think what we'll see tonight will be a once off .

I don't think Egan would be speaking like this unless he had a commitment from TV 3 for more fights in the future . It's also good to hear that he plans to have plenty of Irish title fights and also tickets at €30 are very reasonably priced and allows the average man to not only go see boxing but bring some of the family aswell .

It's is very important that things go well tonight , otherwise we'll be back to one promoter with a tv deal and one tv channel .

I think this card is excellent and a smart move on the promoters part. The bouts look to be tailor made for entertainment and appeal to the average fan in front of the box tonight. Plus regular boxing fans appreciate what most of the challengers bring to the table. Even the guy with a 4-38 record is there for good reason. Hopefully this is the first of many.

    A good nights boxing imo!

The match-ups seemed much more geared to providing entertaining and interesting figths rather than manipulating people into believing in the next big thing.

Collins and Carruth were refreshingly honest and I though overall it was a very professional production by TV3 (Even if the round and timer were three times the size they should be...whats the story with that:eek:).

Anyway nice to see Peters has some competition now so hopefully we start to see some better boxing matches. This can only be good for Irish boxing imo which is already in very good shape.

It was interesting to hear Paschal say Moore is a better fighter than Lee

Agree with your sentiments 100%, the only thing worrying me was the size of the crowd and with the little interest here the viewing figures(which seem bound to be low) .

Nevertheless the fights themselves were entertaining and if the fights keep up to that value or improve then crowd figures and viewing figures will only pick up . I think most people(unsurprisingly as it was in Tallaght) were there to see the Hyland brothers, as the crowd actually got smaller after Paul Hyland's bout even though the main event was left .

It's a must for Egan to have at least one of the Hyland brothers on his promotion at a time, as in Dublin they're the only fighters guaranteed for a good few tickets sales(outside of Peters' contracted fighters)

From little acorns grow great trees and if Egan keeps promoting the Hyland brothers, and the likes of Gary O'Sullivan along with a few quality imports(Moore, Martinez) here and there he's bound for a bit of success .
Hopefully Egan made a profit tonight too, but if he did it will be down to the TV money because that crowd won't have paid for the fighters purses, never mind security, venue, etc .

I was quite impressed with Hyland at 122 lbs. He looked big, strong and heavy handed, with speed and style. He throws all the shots and lovely body shots and is very aggressive. Kiko, Ben, Munroe; I think would all lose to Hyland. Moore was Ok, but his oppoent wasn't realy up to much was he

Yeah the crowd was shocking alright. Very disappointing to see......although perhaps that had something to do with a lack of promotion? The first I heard about it was flicking through the channels on Saturday:eek:

Hopefully after being on the TV there will be more interest in the next card.

Thought it was a good showing overall. Id imagine the low attendance figures would make people not want to watch it if they arent familiar with the fighters otr the fatc that its a new promoter, first tv3 show etc. Gives the impression that its not going ot be good.
Ill be looking forward to the next one and to see who else appears on the bill. Id say martinez fight wasnt shown because he didnt dominate the way the Irish fans are familiar with. Holds on to some of his mystique this way.

nice to see the card on tv. wasn't a bad one either. shame the crowds didn't support it. loved collins' comment at the end that the irish middleweight scene is good enough to sell out arenas for the next 2 years, with swathes of empty seats in the background as he was talking...

But he was right.... Moore Duddy Lee would all generate huge interest.

6 out of the 7 there big ears!

If all goes well for Duddy at 154, a fight with Jamie Moore would be massive, especially if Moore wins the european. Would probably fill the point or come very close.

What do you guys think of what Collins was on about regarding the super bantams... Dunne, Hyland, Martinez... and throw McCullough in the mix.
