Mods being that i worked (past tense) for sky i thought i might impart some "wisdom" i accrued over a years service as my contract is now null and void i can discuss and give advice

This thread will start with the main problems had by sky users

""There is a technical fault with this channel"

"No satellite signal is being recieved"

"This is the wrong card for this set top box/ card not authorised"

"THERE IS A TECHNICAL FAULT WITH THIS CHANNEL PLEASE TRY AGAIN LATER

Well this one is easy as pie, first one below is for pvr3 and pvr4 (sky+ and hd boxen) second one is for std digiboxes

1 Put box on standby (power button on remote or box) now as long as you are not recording anything make sure your hands are dry and CAREFULLY unscrew the two lnb connections marked on the back of the box as "dish input 1 and dish input 2" and take them out of your box

2 Turn off the power to the box at the mains and wait 30 seconds, then turn the power back on so its on standby (red light) carefully screw the cables back in again making sure it is on standby for a further 30 seconds and then turn the box on, et voila!

For std digiboxes put it on standby then unplug the box for 30 seconds, then 30 seconds on standby and robert is yer fathers brother.

NO SATELLITE SIGNAL IS BEING RECIEVED

Well this one can either be easily fixed or needs a service call (and bitching to the person on the other end of the phone doesnt change this) Again i will put the pvr3's and 4's first then digiboxes

Firstly for both boxes, has it been raining or stormy lately? The dish might have moved and need to be realligned keep this in mind

1 Put box into standby, again if not recording anything (as it may be on one input and not the other) you see you generally record off dish input 2 and watch on input one (ie you are taping sky one(input 2) and watching mtv(input 1) carefully unscrew both inputs and take them out of the box

2 When they are out check the middle of each one there is a copper core in the middle make sure they are both straight and not kinked or anything (it can happen alot believe me) and if they are ok turn off the power to the box and carefully screw the feeds back in again and after about 60 seconds turn it all back on again (sometimes this alone solves the problem)

For digiboxes just put it into standby turn it off for 60 seconds and back on again and follow below

3 With the box on again press services, system setup, signal test and see what the lock indicator says if "not locked" then its a service call pretty much straightaway if not then see below

4 When everything back on and you still getting the message press services, system setup, 0 1 select and press select. Go to lnb power supply and turn it off (right arrow key) and likewise for 22khz command and go to save new settings and select and then the sky button. Now it will say no sat signal cos you just turned it off basically. Then follow this path again and press the red button to turn the two things back on again and save new settings and sky.

5 if this hasnt resolved the issue you will need to call sky tech to do a system health check which you cant do alone you need a code from the sky tech and the sky system can analyze the results.

THIS IS THE WRONG CARD FOR THIS SET TOP BOX/ CARD NOT AUTHORISED

Have you had a service call recently? Was the box replaced? Well each viewing card is paired to the box at sky's end ala a bank account and bank card. If you change banks your card wont work anymore will it? There are two ways to resolve this one if you have a phone line connected to your box if not then just go to number 2

1 If you have ph line connected (and are not using it as if busy this wont work) press services, sys setup, 0 1 select. Go to "new installation" and press select a total of 3 times (ignore what it says on screen and this WILL NOT WIPE ANYTHING YOU HAVE SAVED ON SKY+/HD BOXES) and it should say "now scanning please wait" when it says "channel line up complete" press the select button (Dont do this if ph line being used again it wont work) and the box will perform a call back to sky. This should update the system with the new boxes info and knock you back on again or you can just do number 2 anyway

2 All you have to do is ring sky's tech line with the system details screen up (services, sys setup, sys details) and ask them to pair the card to the new box

Now they say 2 mins to 4 hours but (and alot of people there wont know this) if you put the box into standby before any signals are sent 9 times outta 10 you will be knocked back on straightaway, sometimes you will have to wait those times but as i said that happens rarely. So make sure and ask them, they will ask you for the serial number and version number say it to them "before you pair the card wait one moment please" and when the box is on standby tell them to go ahead

    ********************************************************

I havent much more to say really if the mods wanna delete this then go ahead i wont be offended and if people wanna ask questions do so here or pm me i dont mind (just be nice about it ;) )

I will say this though, if you do have to ring sky be nice. The PERSON on the other end of the phone didnt come round to yours and beat the **** outta your box/satellite they are there doing a job to help you and dont need to be spoken to like shíte ( you may not realise you are but trust me, you are)

If you have your box for at least a year this means it is out of its warranty and is now yours. This means there will be a service call charge (honestly people being surprised there would be a charge on an 8 year old box is madness) i dont know when but sky Ireland will follow suit behind sky uk/ the north and bring in the "Sky repair protection plan" which will be very worth it but for the meantime if you want the box to be covered and not pay a service call charge, take out an extended warranty
