Its in the dealers alrite. There are a few of the on carzone

    http://www.carzone.ie/used-cars/SEAT/Ibiza/1.2-COSTA/1120692/

Unfortunately, judging by carzone, its onlt the base models in yet and even as base models go, this aint no looker. Its a big car alright but i dont think its sporty enough for a seat. Its plain.TBH, i think the skoda fabia is a better looking car than this,Thats also worth a look.O and you were wondering about the diesel, thats not coming until next year unfortunately

Seat won't be giving you the option to kill us or infect us with cancer until sometime next year. You have the choice of the 1.2, 1.2 or 1.2 for the moment, and the larger petrols will come later this year, while the filthy dirty diesels arrive next year.

Saw it in the flesh today when I was picking up my car, not as nice as the marketing pic above imo.

And I suppose you are one of these "clean Loving" people that would not dream of going to the Airport and taking a flight out to some holiday destination while having no concideration about the massive amounts of polluting fuel a Plane burns ?

Drove the 1.4 petrol and 1.9 diesel abroad a little while back, and of the two, the petrol was the nicer engine. No rocket ship, but reasonably agile. The 1.9 TDi felt coarse and front end heavy in comparison.

They hadn't any 1.4 diesels at the launch, but this engine might well be the pick of the range. The 1.4 petrol is due in September, with the two diesels expected early 2009. Expect to see a sporty version at some point as well.

Am I the only one who thinks it looks identical to a BMW 1-series in that pic?

I'm not doing the equivalent of smoking indoors and making sure everyone else breathes in all the toxic fumes, which basically is what one is doing by driving a paraffin stove. I value my health, so I'd like to do without diesel fumes trying to make me less healthy thank you very much.

If you read my OP you'd realise that I answered the question the OP asked. The truth always hurts.

Anyhoo someone here who has driven the car said that the 1.4 petrol was better than the 1.9 diesel even though the diesel is more powerful and the 1.4 isn't even a terribly modern engine either, it's pretty awful in the Golf anyway, so God only knows how bad the tractor engine is.

I hope the steering is a bit better in this one.

The previous generation had absolutely no feel whatsoever.
Thought the 1.2 petrol was alright though :)

Anybody know exactly when the 1.4 petrol is being released. I see in an earlier thread that they are due in september!!! is that still happening.

Funny enough I rang the seat dealership and was informed there was going to be no Seat Ibiza 1.4 petrol... seems he was telling fibs, just to try and shift the 1.2 models.. see typical he heard a woman's voice and the fecker made me doubt myself.

So just for that there is no way I will be buying my new Seat from them.. will go to wexford and buy there instead.

There seems to be a lot of hype and slick marketing around the new Ibiza, designed by the chap who did the Gallardo? If so who cares? IMO the car looks drab, despite the attempt at style with a few angles creases. The front end looks awkward and the rear just boring. I think its sheen will be very short lived and may be a dodgy long term proposition. I suspect if it had come out of Korea, designed by some no-name it would be all but ignored by the journos.

Could you be tempted towards the new Ford Fiesta, which is launching in November?

Its entire petrol engine, including the 1.6 Ti-VCT manages 16% VRT and €150 motor tax. Actually the 1.6 in the new Fiesta is as good on CO2 and mpg as the 1.25 in the current Fiesta. That obviously is major progress.

Unfortunately your tale about bad dealer service is all too common, yet we have people complaining that people complain about main dealers too much:confused::rolleyes:. Small wonder really.

There are some decent dealers and there are even decent people working in them, and some of the posters here who contribute work for them and their product knowledge speaks for itself(like AudiChris). Unfortunately they are very much in the minority. I have found most of them to be a pack of w***ers. This seems to be almost irrespective of brand.

As for the Ibiza, while I made the point earlier about the diesels being filthy and dirty(which they are) I would still be suggesting that you consider the 1.4 TDI, which will be here for January. It'll be under 120 g/km for CO2 and that means €100 motor tax. The petrol 1.4 will be in 20% VRT, which means €290 motor tax but more to the point probably means it'll probably be only a small bit cheaper than the diesel, so from a cost and resale point of view it probably makes more sense to choose this model.

The antiquated 1.9 TDI will give way in a short while to a brand new 1.6 TDI which is coming and promises to offer similar performance but will be a good deal more economical not to mention considerably quieter too.

What a load of crap! Obviously if the EU is taxing diesels at a lower rate than petrols then diesels are better for the environment, and therefore not making you any "less healthy" than petrols are.
