Just read that pat mcquaid is boycotting this years tour, can someone please explain as to what side of the fence he is on as his actions seem to be getting more confusing - is he indicating that there are cyclists who he knows are using performancing enchancing drugs are taking part in this tour or that some cyclists/ teams, who are in this years race, were just put there because they have no history of doping and hence covering up for the sake of the sport? just curious as to what the hell is going on, thanks!

Pat is president of the UCI.

The Tour de France is organised by a privately-owned media conglomorate called ASO. The UCI is a collective of national cycling federations.

ASO and the UCI are involved in a dispute over the control of the sport of cycling.

There are a number of issues between them, the Pro-Tour series is one, another is a difference in approach to anti-doping measures.

Teams are afraid of offending the ASO as it controls some very lucrative events.
